The silver market is a tiny fraction of the oil market. It is like comparing a grain of sand to a boulder.

By the way, the silver market can (and IS -- with complicitness from the Federal Reserve) being manipulated right now, to keep the price down. They are doing it through their primary dealer banks, most notably JP Morgan Chase, which inherited a huge short position from Bear Stearns and continues to work it to this day. It's all but been proven. Unfortunately, there is no one to take the proof to, because our Federal government and central bank is part of the scheme.

Seriously ... and those fellows were two of the richest men in America till they tried that. They lost 80% of their net worth as a result.

Actually, the Hunt Brothers were just idiots.

They lost more than a billion dollars with their futures play. But their family fortune was still huge afterward. They lost everything afterward. Everything they touched turned sour. Oil, sugar, real estate. They did end up bankrupt, but it wasn't just from them trying to corner the silver market and it collapsing on them.

I wouldn't be saying how much I paid for, but I could comment on the rate at which gas prices rise on this country. One second you know that you are not going to be able to go as far as you usually do because of the high gas prices, then a second later you're just going to be surprised when you gas up because you won't be able to go as far as you expected! I do wish the Department of Energy releases its justification of gas prices so we won't be complaining this much!

Hit $4 in Minot this week -- up a nickel in time for some big festival where everyone comes in driving RVs.

    I'm sure that's coincidence, though.

For the last three days the gas station I always use for price purposes here, has unleaded at 3.939. That's in the western suburbs of Chicago (Thornton's on 63rd Street a couple of blocks west of Cass Ave. in Westmont).

    $3.39 today. I guess I'm today's winner.

$3.46 in NE Mississippi. Within driving range, I think you can find gas for $3.38, but it's not on my normal path and not worth going out of the way to buy at that price.

I miss the days when Bush and Cheney and Halliburton gouged us and gas was $1.75.

I must say that the cheap gas is the only thing that causes me to get anywhere near a Walmart and/or a Walmart parking lot.

Paid $3.79 yesterday (down from $3.93 last week) and saw it down to $3.75 today.

Low $3.40s around me, but they're dropping slowly.
