The local QuikTrips are my canary in a coalmine. They're always the first to hike and lower prices, and they went from $3.09 to $3.39 in less than two weeks.

The refineries say it's "scheduled maintenance."

WTI closed down more than a buck to $96.17 today, but is still up about $11 since Thanksgiving.

Report on the news last night cited a refinery fire in Chicago as one reason for the jump, along with a shortage in California that is diverting supplies that would go elsewhere out that way. Analyst predicted that this was just an early spring spike and that he still expects gas overall in '13 to be cheaper than '12.

Two months ago, it was $2.89.9. Today, it's $3.39.9.

"Refinery fire in Chicago" is becoming the worst excuse since "dog ate my homework".

Gas has jumped to as high as $3.85 in spots here. It was $3.59 when I drove home last night.

I filled up for $3.27 on Wednesday. It was $3.51 at the same station last night (Friday).

I'd rather pay that than some of the prices here.

Some spots, as friends have told me, are as high as $3.99.
