We've been around 2.20 for a while, although I saw one place at 2.11 yesterday.

I gassed up at 1.99 yesterday, but it was one of the last places in the region to sport sub-$2/gal prices. Most are in the 2.05-2.15 range now.

Filled up at $2.18, though it's $2.16 down the road from the newsroom here.

Went from $1.83 a couple weeks ago to $1.99-$2.05 here in South Carolina.
    I can't figure out why.

Holy fuck. We're back up to $2.63 at my cheap Arco. The station across the street from my work is at $2.74. The one nearest my house is $2.79.

When the fuck did this happen?

The price in Germany, as I went on a trip south toward Stuttgart, was three times what it is on the bases.
We pay about $2.30 per gallon on the base.
What $16 will buy on the base, costed $38 at a station near Hockenheim today.
Americans complain about high fuel prices, but it's literal hell for Europeans.
We don't understand how bad it could be.

One reason is because the tax the shit out of gas over there.

Yes, there is a 19 percent tax on all retail items here and restaurants and utilities and everything.
Used to be 16 percent until a few months ago.
In the U.S., the tax is about 8 percent.
The unemployment rate is staggering here, too. The country needs to correct some problems.
But with gas, the prices are still much higher than in the U.S.
Thank goodness I can buy on the military installations and pay "normal" prices. I can buy coupon books at those same "normal" rates, too, and use them at Esso stations away from the bases.
Military and civilian folks are treated really well here in Germany.

    From a weekend road trip:
    $2.199 in Boston.
    $2.139 in southern New Hampshire.
$2.099 in northern New Jersey on the PA/NY border
    $2.389 in Groton, Conn.
$2.229 outside Waterbury, Conn., and on the MassPike

I knew I should have bought gas Wednesday, when it was $2.29. Waited until Thursday when I went to work, when I was down to a quarter of a tank, and the price rose 10 cents overnight. Damn.

Gas here has risen 14 cents in a week.
    You read that right.
    10 cents in 48 hours.
