Damn, I can't believe how high the rest of the country is. We climbed a bit, but we are only at $3.07, of course I am sure it is going to skyrocket over night because I have to fill up tomorrow.

I paid one swipe of my Shell car.

Actually, since my interest rate is about 24 percent and I spent almost $40, I'd rather not compute what my per-gallon price is at the end of the day.

But I did see on Motorweek today that it's not a good idea to use vegetable oil in diesel vehicles. The guy says it will work, but it might cause some serious engine problems at some point. My question is who the hell would try it anyway?

I live in California and paid $3.29 on Saturday to gas up.

I was, however, shocked to see this story from AP today:

Nebraska edged Michigan to take the dubious honor of having the most expensive gas in the nation, according to a nationwide AAA gas price survey released Sunday.
At $3.34, the average price for a gallon of gas in Nebraska was down a little less than a cent from Saturday, but Michigan was down more than a cent and slightly lower than Nebraska.
That puts Nebraska at 29 cents above the national average -- $3.05.
Prices in Norfolk are were few cents lower Sunday -- averaging $3.32 -- but in North Platte, the average price was $3.40, according to AAA.
Wisconsin, Illinois and Hawaii join Nebraska and Michigan to round out the top five most expensive places to buy gas, all with prices between $3.28 and $3.34, according to AAA.

Weirdest thing to see California's name not even pop up in the AP story.

Last Tuesday as I drove home in the late morning, the station by my house was 3.17. When I went out later that day, it was up to 3.39. So even though I needed gas I passed it by and went up the road. Saw 3.29, skipped it. Got near the poker tournament I was going to and the station near there was 3.49. So I went to the poker tournament. On the way home, stopped at a place and figured I'd get 10 bucks worth, but this place was only 3.15, so I filled up. Now, a week later, as I was coming home tonight, the place near my house that had gone up to 3.49 and then came down to 3.39 was down to 3.19. So tomorrow I'll fill up again.

It's been steady in the low $2.80s since the sudden jump.

With the wide disparity in gas prices nationwide, I'm surprised a black market for gas hasn't sprung up.

I have a 1999 Honda Civic. Yesterday I was as close to empty as it gets, filled up and paid $30.33, the first time I'd reached 30 bucks with that car.

10.463 gallons at $2.899 per gallon.
