Being alone makes a lot of people uncomfortable.

I don't understand those people, at all.

probably helps explain the divorce rate. I have a long-term gf friend -- two and a half years -- and we see each other like twice a week bc I have a daughter I have 50/50 and the gf lives in a different town. It works for us, so far.

Among the many, many, many reasons I never wanted kids (or a husband) is that I wouldn't have time to myself. I truly don't know how people do it.

I have tons of time to myself, because my wife and I are a perfect match in this regard: We enjoy each others' company tremendously, but she's happy spending hours working on her projects by herself, and I'm happy being able to hit tennis balls or read or watch TV for hours by myself. Neither of us is one of those people who can't handle being alone. Actually, we MUST have our alone time, and each of us respects that.

It doesn't have to be an either or.

There is no reason both people in a relationship can't have time to themselves if that is what each wants. You don't all of a sudden stop enjoying thing things you used to love doing because you are married and had children.

I get up early every day and have an hour or so to myself in which I'm usually having a coffee and either working out or reading. I also golf, go to sporting events and hang out with NYC friends after work a few times a month.

I would have moved out if my in-laws had ever moved in.

All I want. Just me and the dog, so a lot of time alone. We walk 4-6 miles a day. Cook what I want when I want, shop when I want, sleep when I want. I mostly love it. I also love the craziness 5-6 weekends a year when the kids (and their dogs visit). I'm kind of a persnickety asshole, not sure anyone would ever want to live with me again. Pretty sure I wouldn't want that, either. I've grown to like my space, my schedule with the occasional visits from the kids.

Well, it is an either/or for me. Obviously, the mileage varies greatly for others. I have about six hours to myself every day, plus weekends. Less than that and I'd be an unhappy person. I need my space.

As much as I want, at the moment. The girlfriend is a patent lawyer and works pretty long hours. We usually spend weekends and maybe one or two weeknights together. We are both pretty independent people and appreciate alone time, so it has worked so far. I feel that will be put to the test soon, however, as we have been together for over two years and the possibility of moving in together looms. My Xbox may soon become just another piece of electronics that is stacked in my closet.

8-9 hours of sleep and 8-9 hours at work leaves about 6 hours a day. I live alone and I get to decide what I want to do with those 6 hours. Sometimes I spend it with other people, sometimes not, but it's my choice.

    BINGO!
Though I'd kill to be able to sleep 8-9 hours
