SJ doesn't really have such a good track record for such discussions, right?

I wear pajama pants, though usually just for prancing about the house after work, not for sleeping in. I have a pair of Beatles pajama pants from Target that are about five years old, some fleece Clark Griswold pajama pants for Christmas time (no pockets, though, which is a hardship), and a pair of plaid Target-bought pajama pants to mix it up once in a while.

Alone time comes when my wife and I vacation separately.

This makes us an oddity but we do vacation by ourselves but with the kids. It works great because we don't have much in common anymore.

OK. Weren't underoos intended to be worn as underware, rather than pajamas?

    The supposedly was a joke.

I don't know if they were meant for underwear -- they probably were -- but I wore them to bed.

When I was taking an course overload in college and working 30 hours a week for the local newspaper, I actually did one of those "to do" lists regularly. Even then, "goof off" was always included on the list.

The pinnacle of "me time" in my marriage was pre-kids (duh) when my wife worked a weekend cops shift at the paper. Whole lotta golf on those days.

Now, with two kids, it's all a delicate negotiation. One plus for me is that my wife has a job with travel now and I don't. If I have to play single dad for a week, I negotiate a hooky day for later.

I'm half of a retired couple with grown children living elsewhere. Alice sleeps later than I do, so the time from 7-9 a.m. in the winter is my alone time for reading, coffee, writing and like that. I also try to play golf in as early as possible in the a.m. when the weather gets warmer. At night the process is reversed. I go to bed before she does unless there's some major sports event on, so that's when she gets stuff done best done undisturbed.

We need a return to the days of 'formal' pajamas:
