Uhuh. No way. Only instrumentals for me right after a breakup. Especially Wagner, for some reason.

Yeah, it is. But it's one that more people than me believe, I'm sure.

    RHCP,
How old are you? From your post, I'm guessing you're in your early 20s. This was your first serious relationship and you are already thinking about marriage after 8 months? You yourself said that you didn't get to see her very often due to your job schedule conflict. So maybe you were moving quicker in your mind than the relationship was actually progressing. That's a mistake people in their first "serious" relationships sometimes make.
Chalk this up as a learning experience. You learned something about the give and take of a relationship and how difficult it is to keep one going on a sportswriter's schedule. Just go out and meet different women. You probably have tons of chances to do that every day. Just go out and meet women without any expectations of long-term. You have to sample the flavors before you can really pick a favorite.

    Please take Moddy's advice.
Without getting into too great of detail, I pined away after some girl for the better part of three years. Pissed away a lot of time and I drove myself, my family and my friends crazy beyond explanation and proceeded to miss out on a lot of what life had to offer. Once I finally let go and took advantage of all the personal and professional opportunities surrounding me, once I oppened up my eyes, I found the woman who is now my wife. She blows that other gal right out of the water and I couldn't imagine being happier. It's going to take you a little while to get over it, sure, but the sooner you do, the better off you are.

I also highly reccomened you rent Swingers with Vince Vaughn. Get together with some of your best friends, gather up some choice refreshments and watch. That movie perfectly sums up what to do/not to do after the big breakup.

This reminds me of the espoused philosophy of a great former baseball SID in the SEC.

"Less 'I love you'.  More 'Fuck you.'"

    Wonderful advice.

    Great advice, Moddy. Great advice.

    Quick story:

A buddy in an old unit I was in had been in the Navy. He had been at sea for quite some time when he received a video tape from his wife. Not uncommon. She regularly sent video letters. But this video was special; she was fuckin' another dude.

She was sitting on the couch and told him she "couldn't do this any more." Then some guy walks into the picture and does the deed.

Poor fellow. He's a good guy.

"Evil" is an over-used word, but maybe if I capitalized it, the word would regain some of its lost punch.
    Those two people are Evil.

He told me this in January 2004, while we were both overseas on a deployment.

He was a pretty good sport about it. We were sharing a case of beer, and he talked about it pretty matter-of-factly.

Edit to add: I haven't seen Jarhead.
