It's not that difficult at all.

    Talk sports.
Greet them kindly - but professionally - and be sincere.
Treat them as equals - no more, no less - in everything you do: Greetings, interviews and the way the stories are written.

People who pay attention to those details will usually take notice.

Sound advice ... if you want to end up in jail as a sexual predator.

Just treat them normally. Don't try to impress them, do try to be their friend. Just do your job, and when the interview is over, get into a brief conversation. Ask who makes the pregame music tape. Ask if they're going to the prom. And for gawd's sake, don't flirt.

I'm actually gonna take the low road on this one.

I'm guessing your average high school female athlete - a well-rounded girl with athletic skill, brains and 17-yr-old beauty - could make our young friend's head spin. Bulls Fan, you don't have to worry about having something in common with them. You have to worry about keeping them from laughing at you.

Some ground rules: don't stare at boobs, don't stare at asses, don't stare at anything below the waist in volleyball, don't tell them they look good, don't try to grab a peek of sports bra when they're changing jerseys.

And this point was brought up the last time we had a similar thread, but I think it's worth repeating: never interview a high school athlete out of site of a third party. Even if you're across the gym so you can get a little privacy, never be completely alone with a minor.

  6. Treat them like you would guys of the same age. That is the end.

This is very good advice, good policy to follow every time. And that means every time.

On a similar note, if you have to do a phoner, record it. Every time. Radio Shack sells a $25 gadget that allows you to connect your tape/digital recorder to nearly any phone system via the recorder's MIC IN port.

People actually do this? It's an interview for Christ sakes, not an elimiDATE (nice spelling, network execs ::)) episode.

More of a Blind Date fan myself.

This thread never had a chance.
