How to tip movers?

I missed this thread the first time around. Tipping movers? Seriously?

The only way I'd tip a mover is if he carried me on his back cross-country like a goddamn Sherpa.

I mean, does nobody just work for a wage anymore?

I was thinking the same thing.

I was just recently informed that you're also supposed to tip the maids at hotels, and was amazed.

I figured going through my luggage looking for stuff to steal was gratuity enough for them.

I have given a bartender a $100 tip. I have never tipped a maid in my life, and I never will.

Apparently, I'd rather be dirty than sober.

At least offer them something to drink. ...

Kramer: Did you offer those guys a drink?
Jerry: Uh, no. Should I have?
Kramer: What kind of a person are you?
    Jerry: I don't know.

    ...

Jerry: You're something. So anyway, when they were in my house before, I didn't offer them anything to drink.
Elaine: Well, they're real men, Jerry. They get sweaty.
Jerry: So, anyone sweaty comes into your house has to be offered a drink?
    Elaine: Yes.

    I think it's a cultural thing.

It sounds like a lot of Americans do.

I've never heard of a Canadian tipping a mover.

It is a cultural thing. We Americans love our tipping. Yes, with the exception of those in service industries making $2 an hour and living off tips, the wage should be enough. But I'll throw a sawbuck to the movers, the guy who tows my car in the middle of the night, the housekeepers and the assistant coach who gives me the dish on the star player's injury status.

OK I made up one of those. I forgot to tip the housekeepers on my last work trip.

We tip our doctors and nurses.

You should, since -- like waiters -- they make $2 an hour.

I'm with Jones. Just getting to this thread, and I'm astounded that I should tip a mover. How 'bout the motherfucker I'm paying hundreds (thousands?) of dollars to move my shit PAYS THE MEN DOING THE WORK!?!? Crazy concept, I know.

I think this revelation guarantees I'll be doing the work myself (again) the next time I move.
