I originally heard on channel 4, right before I posted. Channel 4 seems to have the best relationship with Metro PR, because they seem to get their news before the other stations.

Already got about an inch by me. The flakes are huge and the ground is already covered. And yet, some asshole just drove down not very well-plowed street at about 40 (the speed limit is 25). I hope he had fun getting around the curves up ahead.

We got 10-14 inches today (well, actually yesterday), but we're used to that kind of crap here. I feel bad for you D.C./Md./Va. folks who are just getting clobbered and are not used to this kind of shit.

But look at the bright side: The 30 or so inches you'll have from the two storms probably will be gone before the 10-14 here in my area.

Main roads have that shit piled almost as tall as me, and I've never been considered short. Today's being scaled back to aroudn 4-8 inches, which would put us just short of the all-time official record for most snow in a winter, which was set in 1890-something. The worst of it is supposed to be around lunch time though, with some 40 mph wind gusts. I'm not sure even the biggest winter lovers are happy with this. Schools have been canceled for the week. Roofs are collapsing. In all, it's a clusterfuck of a week.

Well, now it's a blizzard warning posted here until 7p.m. Seriously, it's just fucking depressing.

This is as bad as it gets for school divisions in Richmond.

Three major school divisions (about 150,000 students) tried to go to school today, had the high schoolers in school, buses rolling for the elems and middles with students on them, and the skies just opened up. About two inches in one hour fell, and it keeps falling.

News stations are telling people to pull their students off of the bus stops and bring them in the house. Schools are closed.

Now the students that they do have, they have to be sure that a parent is home when they drop them at the house. I cannot expalin to you how bad of a situation this is.

This is why they call schools before a flake of snow falls.

Only about two inches down here plus some slush ... but we're getting those winds that Headbutt was talking about. Up to 60 mph in some places. Seems like a good day to stay inside, save for hitting the gym.

Major problem for Richmond, and many other southern municipalities, there is a theory that sand will melt ice on roads. It doesn't. However, kittylitter is excellent on ice.

Maryland is intermittently suspending snow plow operations due to near zero visibility and wind conditions
