There's not one in any store within 40 miles.

If we get the snow forecast through Monday, we'll have had 18 inches in three weeks. Ugh.

Gym roof collapses in Blacksburg. Thank God the gym was empty.

The snows of this season (and Vancouver's unfortunate lack of snow) can be traced to El Nino. Forecasters expected this season to be snowier in the East than most because of the weather patterns that come with El Nino (a surge in water temperatures in the eastern Pacific). The resulting upper-level winds also made last year's hurricane season a merciful bust in the Atlantic. Meterologists, at least ones I've read, have El Nino fading away this summer, so more hurricanes and less Eastern snow for the next year, if that holds.

Yup, classic El Niño — California storms and all. I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned in the news. It was announced a year ago that a strong El Niño event was forming.

Somehow we're all supposed to believe that every day is supposed to bring abnormal weather. Shit happens people and it's not like King Louie got up to check what his local meteorologist had to say. These records just don't go back very far.

Columbus is having a rough go of it. I-71 was apparently shut down earlier today because of a 50-car pile up. It's STILL crawling. The gf is stuck on 71, says it's a parking lot.

Coming back from Iowa on Sunday, we were about 30 minutes behind this. We sat for about 45 minutes, I turned around, drove back the wrong way down the shoulder to the nearest exit. 80 was essentially shut down east-west from Omaha to Grand Island.

Had to take the back roads from Lincoln to Manhattan then onto 70.

    9 hour trip took 13 1/2 hours.

    Ai carrumba.

I don't know about this snow thread, but I sure was enjoying the one on football and the Olympics with all the Pats-Raiders snow pictures. Some good laughs: 1) from football being in the Olympics and 2) Americans who actually call soccer football with the rest of the world.

I don't mind snow, even 4-5" of it. But fuckabuncha 14" of it. We were damn lucky it was 32º when it all fell and the roads cleared quickly when it stopped. If it had been colder, it would've been today before we dug out.

I'm pretty sure one of our photogs hates snow now if he didn't before.

The season opening baseball game between our two main schools was called in the fifth inning (just seconds after the first photo linked was taken) and ruled no contest. Gametime temp of 34 with windchill of 25. Shooter braved it out for the 90 minutes or so before play was halted.

I'm probably going to have to buy him dinner for this.

High school games are official after four, aren't they? Was it tied?
