You've given us a gracious and positive note different from several months ago. Attitude change. Good on you! You are loved, not a burden. You are sought, not forgotten. You are fighting, not giving in. Science moves forward and so can you.

Despite 40 years in some really good newsrooms,
my favorite quote ever came on this little phone screen right now.

Boogie on, Boogie. ... Boogie on well, our treasured friend. :)

(And I've always demanded that from my god, too.)

So…now I have a brain tumor that is pressing up against my third cranial nerve that controls my left eye. So I can’t see straight unless that eye is covered.

They think it might be benign bc the previous cancer ive had in my cheek/lungs isn’t supposed to metastasize along that certain nerve.

They can’t biopsy it; it’s small, the thing pressing on my eye nerve. So theyll most likely operate and remove and maybe ill get sight back and maybe it’e not malignant.

I have a spinal tap scheduled for next Wednesday at Yale, supposedly cutting edge move that can provide insight on tumor physiology.

    That’s that, man.

Sitting in Bridgeport train station with my daughter to take Amtrak to Annapolis to see my three sisters and maybe my college roommates. Will not allow it to devolve into maudlin last visits, but I aint superhuman.

Regardless, No quit. Too Irish and stubborn for that.

But man, Id appreciate a breather, especially for my wife. We only got married in May 2021 and we’ve been dealing with this since Jan 2022.

Im walking through the day with one eye, lung cancer, and maybe brain cancer. And Id be lying if I say the prognosis looks good or that Im not on the verge of losing it.

Goddamn man. I'm sorry to read this. I hope the news next week and thereafter re: the brain tumor is OK and that you and your wife finally get a chance to exhale a little bit at some point. Thinking of you and your family.

You've fought through a lot already. You're much stronger than many of us here. Not warm words at this time, I know, but you're a tough SOB.

    And you're Irish.

If I went to the window, I'd put down a tenner on you no matter the odds.

    Sending warm thoughts your way.
