I thought the Bartman doc was going to be part of 30 for 30

I thought it was interesting hearing Patrick talk about that moment on his show. I wish I could remember exactly what he said about it.

I watched a repeat of it last night and I found myself getting in a rage at that guy (the one who sauntered down there and went all bad-ass). Bartman didn't make a mistake. He reacted in a situation in which he had maybe a second or two to get his mind together. That in retrospect his reaction might have been costly doesn't make it mistaken. But the douchebag they kept talking to (in the doc), he had plenty of time to get his mind around the situation. He had plenty of time to answer the question, "Is going down there and harassing this guy something I should do?" And his answer, arrived at in the comfort of knowing that he had plenty of backup, was "Yes!" There's your mistake.

If anybody should be ashamed at what happened, it's Mr. Badass.

  3. +1 and then some...
I watched it last night and was horrified at the behavior of fans, including the schmuck who was recording scenes.
There were about three people in the doc - not named Steve Bartman - who came out of that looking normal. The rest were a fucking embarrassment that includes Mike Wilburn and Scott Turow ...
It's a game. A game whose outcome has no direct effect on your life and yet that's the behavior and attitude toward a guy who did nothing wrong?
For fuck's sake - what is wrong with people?

The firefighter/bar owner seemed like a first class douche.

I can only think of the security guard, although the redheaded lady sitting near him didn't come off too bad, if I remember correctly. Who else seemed normal to you?

And the dude who was grinning about coming after him (Jim something?) came off worse than any of them. What an incredible prick.

I did a bit of googling on him, and he was interviewed recently by the local Fox affiliate. He said he would, if he could, apologize to Bartman for what he did and what's happened to Bartman. So I'll give him that ... I suspect he said those same things during the filming of the documentary, but they wound up not making the cut. He also said, though, that he'd still ask Bartman, "What were you thinking?" So his prick-o-meter rating is still way on the high side in my book.

  7. Steve Lyons and Eric Karros. That's about it.

What if I told you the 30 for 30 ad campaign has been unbearably pretentious?

Oh, I hadn't even considered the players, aside from Alou, who seems like a huge asshole. Lyons and Karros did seem relatively normal.

When was the interview? If it came after the original documentary aired, it sounds like damage control to me. He immediately became public enemy No. 1 after the first showing, so he probably wanted to change his tune a bit.

Just saw this last night and enjoyed it -- but who the hell videos himself all during a playoff game except some extreme narcissist?

Didn't they say that guy was a filmmaker? Maybe he was planning on a project of his own.

My one beef with his segments was that Gibney waited a really long time to ID him. I thought he might have been Wayne Drehs and just gotten roughed up a bit.
