We just had to have one cat's front leg amputated last month, and on Sunday we adopted two kittens on our 16th anniversary.

Oh my embittered heart! We had two cats, a tabby and a Maine Coon, who looked just like the cats in your bottom photo. Tabby made it to 17 and the Maine Coon made it to 20. Tabby was a slow decline but the Maine Coon was happy as could be two days before she went downhill.

I don't even know where to start.

Our options through the Rescue today were:
1. Meet Finn;
2. Decide not quite for us;
3. Decide we'll take him for a 2-week trial and plan a date to pick him up to start;
4. Decide we'll take him for the trial beginning today and bring him home.

Yeah, you know where this is going.

He's sleeping on his blanket on the couch next to my lovely wife as I type this. Today is Day 1 of our trial.

He was a little angel riding home in the car. Sat with our daughter, who's home from college. He likes looking out windows. Took him to our back yard which has a fence and he poked around.

Took him for walk, err, run around the neighborhood sidewalk. He marked everything that was tall - trees, wire grass bushes, lampposts. He gets fixed in two weeks.

After the walk he ran and RAN in the back yard. It was his first time outside off a leash in months. His foster didn't have a fence.

His foster. My goodness, his foster. What a sweet, huge-hearted young woman. Maybe mid- or late-20s, she lives alone and works from home and fosters beagles. Finn is her fourth. "He's the sweetest, calmest one I've ever had."

He's eaten and found his water dish.

We have a ways to go to get him acclimated and finish housetraining, but we'll get there. He's pretty wiped out now after a big day, so we'll see how things go. He likes to follow us around the house (he is a beagle, after all). It's been a great start.

We like the name Finley, calling him Finn for short.

God, I love dogs. Why are they so good?

3 months to feel part of the family.
