Well, that lie didn't hold up very long.

Farewell, Bathroom Senator, you old bastard.

Hell, Law and Order(s) already had their season's written for them this summer between Craig, Vick, Foley, Leona Helmsley's will, Gonzo, Lindsey, Brittney, Paris, Owen Wilson, etc. Don't know if they'll be able to do anything about the miners, but they might take a crack at Kid Nation, Bonds and Tim Donaghy as well. Where do we send our spec scripts?

That's idealistic, but sadly not true and speaks volumes about how much you understand our legal system. Innocent people plead guilty every day because they are made to feel like they have no choice if they want the incident in question to go away quickly and painlessly.

They haul you in and give you a choice, plead to this and pay a fine and get the hell out of here or we'll hold you for trial, add these charges and you'll have to hire a lawyer and if you lose you'll do time.

That's how the wheels of justice are greased.

Further -- I have seen no explanation as to why picking up men or women in an airport is illegal and why we apparently have sting operations aimed at arresting gay people.

So, if the same senator walked into one of the bars at the airport mall and bought a drink for a guy and made a "universal signal" (whatever the hell that is) to show he wanted to pick him up, he'd be arrested?

My goodness, what a country we live in.

Why did he say on the tape, "I don't do these kinds of things?"

Maybe because he really doesn't do the things that the cop was accusing him of doing.

Why did he pick up a piece of toilet paper off the floor?

Maybe because he wanted to throw it away.

Why did he get up without flushing?

Maybe because he thought it was an automatic flusher

Why would the cop make all this up? If he was just out to get the guy, why would he keep it quiet for months?

Maybe because the cop was trying to meet his quota of arrests and justify his existence.

I'm not saying all of that is or isn't true, I just find it amazing that these things aren't even being considered by a bunch of people who don't know the man.

Is there any evidence of gay pick-up behavior in his background? Wouldn't others who have participated with him in the past have come forward by now?

There've been stories for years that Sen. Craig picked up random men for sex, and if you'd bothered to actually read any of the stories on the subject, you'd know that without asking.

What stories are you talking about? Are they confirmed, with names and addresses or just these floating rumors that are all of the sudden coming out of the closet? I read a lot and have not read one concrete thing about a past history.

  8. Exactly.
There is so much smoke here, it's ridiculous to say, "I see no reason to believe there is a fire."
He is resigning today, and it's not because he made the mistake of pleading to something he hadn't done.
It's because he's been doing this for decades and finally got caught.
And all of your other answer aside -- who the hell picks up a piece of toilet paper off a nasty freakin' public restroom floor? Let it go. You just might lose a hand over that piece of paper (which the cop says wasn't there anyway).

Enjoy your state of denial. It's amusing.

You mean stories like this -- I'm sure it would not be fair to question the motives of a gay activist who has nothing to gain by making up stories of anonymous men, other than to bring down one of the biggest political opponents of the gay movement in the country....

Idaho Sen. Larry Craig Denies Allegations of Same-Sex Affairs

    By Jill Kuraitis, 10-17-06

Mike Rogers, who calls himself "the nation’s leading gay activist blogger" has just finished a nationally-broadcast interview on the Ed Schultz Radio Show in which he alleges that Idaho Republican Senator Larry Craig has engaged in same-sex sexual activity.

Senator Craig’s office flatly rejected the claims. "The Senator says this story is absolutely ridiculous – almost laughable," said press secretary Sid Smith. “It has no basis in fact.”

Rogers said he has talked to three men unknown to each other who all reported in detail their sexual encounters with Craig over the last four years. The men were of legal age, Rogers said. (Audio of Rogers on the Ed Schultz show is available here.)

Rogers says that digging into the private lives of politicians who support anti-gay legislation is legitimate. Because Craig supported and voted for the Defense of Marriage act, it is politically relevant to reveal these claims, Rogers said. In a letter to Craig, he wrote: "What these citizens are not being told is that some of the politicians who want their help are or have staff who are part of the so-called ‘homosexual lifestyle.’"

Rogers reported that he took "trips out west and met with folks in the Senator’s region and in the Pacific Northwest" as part of his research. Rogers said he and his advisors are solid on the sources, but they would remain anonymous. Rogers said he tried to contact the Senator, but never got a response from Craig or his staff.

  11. Joel, if he's innocent, why is he resigning?
    It's a simple question.
The man would not resign over a misunderstanding.
