Idiot columnist of the day

Ive read the column in question several times and honestly - I'm not seeing why it caused such a stink.

All he said was (a) it is a bad idea to wear a road uniform to certain stadiums where drunk fans act like angry mobs and (b) adults who wear jerseys of their favorite athletes are losers.

I'm not sure either sentiment is wrong.

Perhaps you missed the insensitive line:

"Maybe someone can ask Stow, if he ever comes out of his coma, why he thought it was a good idea to wear Giants' gear to a Dodgers' home opener when there was a history of out-of-control drunkenness and arrests at that event going back several years."

Again, he didn't say the guy deserved to get beat. And to my knowledge, the guy is indeed in a coma - and thus can't answer the question now.

I do think he could have worded that sentence better, but I don't think it was worth all this over the top reaction.

I'm not trying to be contrary just to be that guy - I just think we've become such a nation of overly sensitive wusses.

Yeah. Used to be, a guy got beaten into a coma, newspaper columnist speculated he brought it on himself, and we all went down to the corner, chewed an Iron City and took turns punching each other in the fucking dick.

What happened to this country, anyway?

Um, it's on fans not to commit assault over a fucking jersey. It's not on the fan to not wear a fucking jersey. The columnist was rightly grilled for even hinting the victim was in any way responsible.

Please show evidence that Dodger stadium is filled with drunken angry mobs. And please elaborate on why it is a bad idea to wear a team jersey there because of this (if true).

    My comment on that editorial:

I have been in the business for 30+ years and your comment about the apology is pathetic. You printed it! Your editing staff allowed it in the paper. You are as responsible for perpetuating the "blame the victim" stereotype as he is. You cannot fire him, but you can -- and should -- refuse to ever run anything he writes again. And why would you want to publish someone whom your readers do not take seriously.
