I think that deduction would not have been noted had it not been for the column written about the incident in question.

the column reminded me of the line about the pretty girl going to the bar in a lowcut dress. if she gets raped, she was asking for it.

i know i know it is a terrible jump to rape, but that's what i was thinking.

And within that argument, you think it's a reach to say he's saying that those who show up in opposing colors are inviting it, rather than expecting adults old enough to get sloshed to be responsible for their behavior?

Because to me, what you took away from the column is one VERY thin hair away from what everyone else read.

I respect Zag's opinion on the matter. Not only is he on the record as being anti-jersey, he's also in a coma-like fog.

I agree, in this case, that this guy is totally out of line.

Still, it just seems like there's a lot more righteous hand-wringing on here than there used to be. About everything.

    Flame away. :)

I think it's about the same as before, but with fewer sanctimonious dickheads.

I've been thinking the same thing. I'm sure if this journalism thing doesn't work out for the columnist, every defense attorney in the country will want him to express the same view on the stand (and do I really need the blue font?).

Ijag - there is a huge difference between saying someone deserved their fate and saying they shouldn't act shocked by their fate based on the way people act in certain situations. A huge difference

Translation: If you can't make fun of a guy in a coma, what's the world coming to?

If you read the column, Zag. It seemed pretty clear he thought the guy got what was coming to him for his poor wardrobe choice.

He can't act shocked, though. He's in a coma.

  12. You only half-answered half of my question.

He clearly has strong feelings about adult men wearing jerseys, both from the tone of this column and his previous blog items on the subject. You don't feel it was tasteless and/or insensitive to use this incident as evidence in support of those feelings?

And do you not feel it's similarly tasteless to have no sympathy towards a man who was beaten within an inch of his life, regardless of his wardrobe choices?
