as a rookie "a.i." viewer, i wish there was insight given on how contestants pick their songs. to me, so much is all about song choice. jordin chose a very difficult song to sing. can't someone -- bon jovi, for instance -- say, "i've watched the show with my kids and this is my song that would be perfect for you?"

like i said earlier, if jordin is one of the two goners off of one off performance, that would suck.

Dont forget it was combined from two weeks. And Jordin nailed it last week. She won't be going home.

Last night was an interesting Idol. Phil has really picked up momentum in the competition and his version of Blaze of Glory was great. My favorite was Blake last night by a landslide and he proved that you need to take a risk on this show. He will be a great Alternative artist in the future.

Melinda's voice reminded me of a young Tina Turner and the cow bell was a unique touch ;D to "Have a Nice Day"

Chris had a great performance too , one of his best on the show.

Jordin, and Lakisha were the worst last night, so I am picking these two in the bottom three along with Chris. Lakisha may stay, and Chris could go too.

If Melinda or Blake goes home tonight, this will be my reaction

melinda deserves to win. she's the best singer.

jordin, though, will be THE star to come from the show. does anyone question this? ??? ??? ???

I don't understand those that say Blake stinks because he tries to cover up his weakness. There are plenty of talented singers out there that do that; we just don't hear about them. The entire world sees Blake on TV every week, thus giving them the opportunity to pick them apart. All great entertainers (not singers, mind you) have weaknesses.

Personally, I thought Blake was the best performer last night. It took balls to do what he did and he pulled it off remarkably. Now, does that translate into 30 million 14-year-olds voting for him? Who knows. Blake isn't the world's best singer -- neither are half the pop artists we hear on the radio every day. You don't have to be the world's greatest singer to make it in the music industry. You have to entertain -- and Blake entertains. Hell, he may end up being a better producer than performer.

That said, I think Phil Stacey is awful and hope he goes home. As for the other goner, I have no idea, but I have a feeling it'll be Chris, even though he had a great performance last night, one of his best.

Good Lord, Shockey. We know you love Jordin. Is it necessary to show your undying love for her every single week? It's a little much.

Exactly. Jordin picked a good week to be bad, because she likely went in with a big lead.

Besides, after last week's sham, it's clear that Idol isn't exactly the most ethical outfit. I don't think it would let Jordin get voted off yet, regardless of how the votes fall.

    Yeah... great point.

I still like his voice, though. PCLL nailed it about the Keane song. And so did TSP about Sting. Would you call Sting a "great vocalist"? Maybe not, but he's one hell of a musician.

I can't believe I'm still interested despite Hayley being deep-sixed weeks ago. Be that as it may:

--Phil did fine, and paired with a couple of decent weeks before that, he should stay.
--Lakisha does nothing for me. A non-entity until the high notes.
--Jordin picked the worst possible song; she's far too one-dimensional to pull off the radical shifts in range. I sense she was trying to put the knockout blow on all but Melinda and missed. But she's bought enough goodwill to stay.
--It was clear from Blake doing the normal parts of his take on You Give Love a Bad Name (sic, Lugnuts ;) ) that he could have nailed it as a note-by-note duplication. But I think he sensed he had to do something to change the momentum, grab the zeitgeist. He did, and combined with his decent homage to Imagine, he'll stay.
--Chris had a lame performance. He's a goner.
--Melinda is in a league of her own, and I was thinking Tina Turner even before the judges mentioned it. I don't see how she loses. Abba should be in her wheelhouse, Beatles maybe not so much, but there's a wide spectrum of choices from their catalogue.
--Besides Chris, Lakisha or Phil will go. If people listen to the judges, it will be Phil. If people listen to their ears, it will be Lakisha.

Dooley just summed up my thoughts on last night's show. I mean, word for word, nailed my thoughts on the show (except the shit about whore hailey ;) )
