If you were starting college now, what would you major in?

For money: coding. (Although, as noted, you don't really need college for that.)

For fun: city/urban planning. (Apparently, all you need to do is play Sim City for 60 credit hours. I could do that.)

By the way, my oldest daughter started college this fall at a major state university -- my alma mater -- and with all of the opportunities ahead of her, and state-of-the-art amenities and facilities and services on campus, I found myself feeling a little jealous. A lot jealous, actually. It made me wish I were starting college all over again. Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't major in journalism this time around. I might minor in it, though, because it (A) would feed a passion, and (B) help build communication skills that are important in today's business climate, but I'd be more aware of the current and future job market and choose a high-paying major from the get-go.

Biology, foreign language(s), and/or a minor in media law -- all of which are extremely valuable, particularly in sports writing.

I'm a UConn grad and had a friend who went through this program. One of his first jobs post-college was working on Celebrity Deathmatch, which he did for a few years.

I would have gone the same route (English/journalism), but I think I would have liked to have become a reservist in the Air Force.

Vet medicine, and I would have been a good one. Was already at a good school for it.

If we are talking about the time frame that I went to school (95-00), I would easily would have gotten a chemistry degree with an engineering minor (which meant I would have had to gone to my alma mater's rival, Michigan Tech) and moved on to a brewing school in Europe and then joined Sam Adams, Stone or Sierra Nevada in about 2002 and be a Brewmaster by now.

I majored in psychology, and see no reason to change that. It's still applicable to many fields... and might still have the fewest requirements of any major in my alma mater's College of Arts & Sciences.
