I'm Done With Starbucks

More chemicals in tap water unless you have a really expensive high end filter. In fact, when you see those studies about the best tap water, they are measuring it in terms of least bacteria and general "dirtiness," not chemicals. I prefer to keep my chlorine or even fluoride intake to a minimum, let alone the nastier stuff.

I would never claim bottled or filtered water is perfect, but straight from the tap...avoid it.

Folded napkins and too many waiters place asked our group if we wanted tap or bottled water. We said tap (would we have been charged for bottled), but it seemed odd. Is that a trend?
And convenience makes Starbucks what it is. I like Coffee Bean, but it's not 100 yards from my front door.

Caffeine has no effect on me so it doesn't matter what time of day I drink it. I just like the taste of it. I actually don't drink coffee in the morning, but I often have coffee around 4 as a kind of afternoon snack.

Caffeine makes me a more pleasant person, if somewhat manic. I can't drink it past the afternoon though, or I'll never sleep.

Peet's is good. I think the Starbucks guy/guys started out as Peet's employees.
I usually choose to go to local business rather than chains. However, I make an exception on those rare times I want a capuccino. We have a thousand coffee shops, but only three of them are downtown. The service at the two locally owned downtown coffee shops is slow and bad, so I go to Starbucks.
But I don't drink much coffee anymore.

Thanks for all of your support via your posts and pm's. I now have gone 3 days without Starbucks. It's been a struggle but having your support has made it easier. 21 has not yet joined me in my quest to go Starbucks free but I still hold out hope.

In my 3 days I have found there is life after Starbucks. McDonald's new coffee blend is very good and they will also fix it for you just the way you like it.

I also went out and purchased a single cup pod type coffee maker from Keurig. It might be the greatest kitchen appliance even invented.

You have hot coffee in 20 seconds with no mess. Machine uses pods from Green Mountain coffee.Green Mountain is one of those socially aware companies that makes you feel good about supporting them.

I do have to wonder how environmentally friendly the plastic pods are. I may be on may way to killing seas turtles with every cup I brew. It does seem contrary to the Green Mountain mission statement but I am sure their corporate chieftans have found way to reconcile it.

I actually ate sea turtle once. It is one of only two endangered species I have ever eaten.
It was at a fiesta on Guam. I figured what the heck, the thing had already been killed and cooked.
    It was delicious.

Had it swallowed a helium balloon?

No, I think it had been shot with a spear.
Hard to tell. It was in cubes by the time I saw it.

Perhaps a boat propeller to the head.

Here in Columbus, we're pretty lucky that we have TH, Caribou, the local Cup O'Joe and all the Starbucks you can handle.

Horton's is pretty good but you don't have control over the creme ratio and I feel like I'm putting the workers out when I order anything.

Cup O'Joe is a wonderful atmosphere, has free wi-fi and great coffee but refills aren't free and there aren't that many of them.

Caribou's coffee is fantastic, refills are free but no wi-fi.

    Everyone knows Starbucks' deal.

The only other endangered species I've eaten was Marianas fruit bat, also while I lived on Guam.
Unlike sea turtle, fruit bat does not taste good.
