As for WFAN's morning drive slot, I recall that Francesa started in that slot with Ed Coleman before Imus got there.

The lost revenues played a role in the decision to let him go. Was it the main reason? I’m not so sure.

Let’s look at this way. Yes, advertisers were bailing. Big advertisers. And they had every right to take their dollars elsewhere. But, advertisers come and go all the time in business. Could CBS have found new advertisers to replace the ones leaving? Certainly, the Imus brand is a very, very tarnished product at this point and replacing ad revenues right now at this moment—not gonna happen. But as this blows over (and despite the events of the recent days seeming like the gale force winds of controversy are only growing stronger, it eventually will fade), there certainly would be a high degree of interest from people who probably have never heard of the man before this week to tune in and hear what he’s all about, producing ratings and bringing advertising opportunity. From a revenue standpoint, CBS had to ask themselves, could they put something in this slot, brand new, that could generate equivalent or better revenue streams than the post-suspension Imus. My guess is they wouldn’t be able to do so.

Perhaps the decision was more about the moral integrity of the network overall and the potential whiplash effect on its other properties. And if that’s the key driver, fine. That’s a justifiable reason to part ways with Imus.

My issue is how this was handled and really a reflection of leadership (or lack therof).
If the statement was worthy of firing him, then make that determination from the get go. Don’t issue a two week suspension and then waffle all over yourself as the public heat gets turned up. If you deem the crime is worthy of a two week suspension, and you levy that, then stick by your decision. If it’s a fireable offense, then make that call from the start.

What we need and should demand from our leaders is courage in the most difficult times. The ability to take difficult, thorny issues and problems and act decisively, assertively and perhaps unpopularly at times to set the course of direction. And then have the courage and integrity to ride out those decisions.

I saw none of that courage from Moonves and CBS. What I saw was a man twisting in the wind like a leaf falling from a tree on an October day.

And I certainly wouldn’t want Les Moonves as my leader today.

add steve capas to that list of empty suits. suprised that Les still has his job given that he was covorting with the help. Another double standard.

You're looking for leadership in corporate America? Good luck with that. The almighty dollar is the only leader. When stockholders react, CEOs react, in that order. The marketplace is what it is.

I listened for the 10 minutes it took to drive to work. She sounded choppy, he the same: drollish but efficient.

Charles said something how this might be the last telethon, and he sounded sad saying it. She sounded like she needed another gagger.

I can't help thinking how Imus would react to this if it were happening to someone else:

"If someone called my daughter that, I'd punch him right in the mouth. Right, Lou?" or similar.

Don't know if you saw the light and was responding to the last poster, which was FenPhen. If you were, I'm shocked that someone would actually take offense to him.

I couldn't agree more. I think they should have fired him right off the bat or not fired him. The "slow burn" made it look purely financial, which I still believe it was.
