I think he's saying that this has been blown to such a proportion that it has seemed to be the only thing people in this country are worried about. At least, that's what I think he's saying.

 

Those of you who think it's been "blown out of proportion"... question for you:

Do you think the advertisers were obligated to continue buying time on his show?

No, they're not obligated. As I stated early, I just found everything about this story - from the comments to the reaction - to have a sort of ... I don't know what the word I'm looking for exactly is. But, as I stated on one of the 19 other Imus threads (BTW, do we really need all of these Imus threads? Can't there just be one collective, running thread?), those going after Imus for his bigoted remarks it seems have taken this "kill the messenger" approach instead of taking the route of using this as a chance for some intelligent discourse on the subject. There has been some, but it's been concealed by all of the shouts to bring Imus down, not that he doesn't deserve punished for the remarks.

 

Let's be honest here. The Imus thing just filled the void filled after Anna's baby test came back. Of course it's being overblown.

That doesn't mean there's nothing to it, but yep, it's being overblown. There's such a long list of people who Imus has pissed off over the years, it was open season once this hit the airwaves.

 

Chester you lost me there. I agree that this whole thing has been blown up way out of proportion, and personally, I don't give two shits about Don Imus' show or what he has to say on it, but you can't pull the "kill the messenger" excuse when the messenger is at the heart of the story itself.

What intelligent discourse is there from calling someone a nappy-headed ho? It was stupid and he's reaping what he sowed. Pretty cut-and-dried to me.

Not that I care. Out here in flyover land, Imus has never been important enough to give two shits about to begin with.

 

I'm in "flyover land" as well, which is another reason why I felt like a lot of this felt blown out of proportion. I guess what I was talking about in terms of discussion is about racism and sexism in the mainstream media (talk radio/music/movies/etc.) in this country. I just felt like a lot of people acted like this was the first time they had ever heard a racist or sexist phrase uttered over the airwaves. It wasn't, and it won't be the last either. I know why Imus was the target. I guess I just thought there could have been something more positive than just him losing his job that could have come out of it. I'm probably not making any more sense with this than I did with my previous post, but I hope I cleared it up somewhat.

Popular culture devours its own monsters in yet another ugly display. To me the worst thing about this whole mess is that Imus will resurface somewhere. I always thought that Imus was a tremendous douche. He deserved to be canned long before any of this happened.
