I look forward to the day when an old nerdy white DJ can make a stupid joke about the Rutgers womens basketball team, and everyone,....... across all races tells him..........THAT WAS SO LAME!!!!!!!!

Only then, will our country be colorblind.

  2. I think he'll take the blame for perjuring himself before Congress. Other than that, it remains to be seen what else Gonzalez had his hands in ... maybe he and Les are buds and Les agreed to fire Imus to keep the Bush scandals off the front pages for a few more days. It's plausible ;)

They've said stupid things but nothing in my estimation that merits termination. Apparently, their bosses feel the same way.

who, combined, might not have been as George von Benko when he was on WTAE briefly in the late 80s.

von Benko, "This is MY show. I am the host. I will determine what you say on MY show, because this is MY show."

  5. Armchair, I'm talking everywhere. As has already been mentioned here, his successor will be absolutely crucial to the success or failure of the No. 1 sports-talk station in the country. Imus pulled that much weight.

I can't think of a sports-talk host who could pull in as many listeners as he did -- even if his audience was shrinking. With CBS's future in radio a little cloudy, I wouldn't even be surprised if WFAN changed formats.

And this is not over: One thing to consider is that Imus recently signed a five-year deal. There had to have been some sort of standard morals clause that CBS will use to justify the firing and non-payout of the remainder of his salary.

I disagree. It does serve some sort of purpose in NY with all the teams in the area, and there is a different demo from Imus. But it can work. Raissman asks (and tries to answer the replacement question) in his column today, where it's revealed that Mike and Dog approach Imus' level of revenue for the station:

ESPN has not worked in NYC because of the strong, established presence of the FAN. But you know they have to be licking their chops.

Boots is up to 166 posts since 9:13 a.m. yesterday. I wonder what the 48-hour record is.

Did anyone watch/hear M&MD yesterday when Joe Garagiola was in the yudio? Where was Mike for that hour? Does fatso have something against Joe, who seems about as nice a guy as you could meet?

  9. ESPN may be licking its chops, but it still won't get anywhere if it doesn't have a (good) New York-based show, and please don't tell me you think Michael Kay is good.

No...he is awful. But he does get respectable ratings, considering who he's up against.

I've got $5 the Brazilian kid has a better command of the English language than the miniature mangy mongrel. Has anyone mangled the English language worse than Russo? I seriously think they've jumped the shark. The way they shut down & antagonize callers, disrespect and interrupt guests and just looking at how insanely full of themselves they are, you know they won't last for too much longer. And now that Imus is gone from the FAN, maybe the station will say, "Sorry, but we just can't afford yous guys anymore."
