Count me in the meh category when it comes to Five Guys. I'm in a burger dead zone where I'm at.

Bumping because we are only weeks away from the first of seven initial stores opening in the DFW area.

I was just as intrigued to read that Fatburger is coming as well. Five Guys has already moved in.

Red Robin rocks if only just for the raspberry limeade.

A Banzai Burger and a raspberry limeade and I don't even touch the fries. Not enough room in my belly!

To update, the count is now up to 21 stores in Texas. Most of them are in DFW, but two stores are open in the Austin area and a third one is opening soon. I wish they'd open some stores farther north.

Interesting note in that article about the sweet tea.

Good piece. Like the fact she's planning to keep the same approach of things.

Never had In-N-Out but I'd definitely rate it above Five Guys. How's that for a non-testimonial for Five Guys?

Yesterday I ate at a place called Mooyah, which is a Five Guys knockoff. Mostly in Texas, but I see they're trying to go national. I still have a doggie bag full of fries.

Not a fan of Mooyah but I dig the In-N-Out in Rockwall.

Double-double animal style with animal style fries please.

Oh and hot rumor is that In-N-Out has plans to expand into Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana.

Specifically, OKC, Tulsa, Little Rock, Shreveport and northwest Arkansas

The summer before I left for college, I worked at a job where every day we went to In N Out for lunch. There were about five good restaurants in the same area and the subject of going somewhere else never ever came up.

The last time I went to LA to visit my best friend, he picked me up at the airport and had two double doubles, fries and a vanilla shake waiting for me in his car. Nothing makes you appreciate that place more than when there isn't one within 500 miles of where I live...

The story didn't mention much more expansion, but that would fit the model, in that stores are within driving distance of the distribution center since all food is delivered fresh each day. Since there's one now in Texas, expanding into those areas -- like In-N-Out did into Northern California, Arizona, Nevada and Utah since those stores are within driving distance of its main SoCal distribution center -- would make sense.

This thread makes me hungry for a burger. I'm a sucker for them. But some general comments about a few burger chains:

Five Guys - Like their burgers, love their fries. Surprised some people don't like the fries, but hey, not everything will be loved by all.

Freddy's - They make a pretty good patty melt. My mother and sister like their fries, but I'm not really a fan of them.

Fuddrucker's - Good burgers when I dined there, and I loved that they had a buffalo burger on the menu. It is pricey, though.

Braum's - The burgers are pretty decent.

Jack In The Box - Years ago, they weren't anything special, but I think they've gotten better in recent years.

Never been to In N' Out Burger, though.
