In the NYT, Amy Winehouse > James Gandolfini

Guy I talked to (sounds about my age) said he didn't work that night but he would have pushed for a story instead of the teaser because the show *was* stratospheric and wouldn't have come close to being that good without Gandolfini.

So, the NYT should stop covering the world and become Entertainment Weekly writ large. Hookay.

Brando surely didn't get an A1 centerpiece, and Clooney or Pitt or Streep, all far-far more significant than Gandolfini, will not, either. Good lord.

I would guess Dick Whitman, loyal New York Times reader because he's a responsible citizen, was not suggesting a centerpiece. He was responding to Songbird, who apparently is not a loyal New York Times reader (and therefore not a responsible citizen).

I just work in an art gallery.

But, and I don't know if this makes me a responsible citizen, but I did vote last week to pass the school budget (on the third and final try before the state got involved) so that several programs (arts, music, sports) weren't slashed from Podunk School District.

Did the Times put Jerry Garcia on A1 when he died?

    Answered my own question: Yes.

So, is Gandolfini as big as Garcia in the grand scheme of things?

I do not think that James Gandolfini should get the Sunday A1 centerpiece in the New York Times.

John Olerud should, though. Dead or alive.

No, no. I was wondering if a responsible citizen SHOULD read the New York Times, whether it delivered what a responsible citizen needs to know. More specifically, whether A1 does.

Listening to the wingnuts around here, I didn't know anyone cared about the Times.

No. Two decades after death, Garcia is still revered by a certain generation, even if many have long since traded in their hippie wagons for BMWs.

In 20 years, Gandolfini will be remembered as a fine actor in a fine TV show.
