How about that. I never thought I'd see Fenian saying how much he loves the rich and they should get government handouts.

The name of this thread is "indefensible." And it is indefensible that the Baltimore Sun reporter didn't bother to look for any of this and instead pained the family as unable to get by without a huge government handout. Why are blogs running circles around this mainstream media outlet as far as research goes?

    The Shotgun blog offers this:
"Taking into account the value of the home (which was recently remodeled), the value of the father’s business, the value of the commercial property they own, and so forth minus their mortgage and whatever they might owe on the commercial property (and other sundry debts) an educated guess would suggest that this family has a net worth of somewhere in the neighbourhood of $500,000."

The Sun story claimed the Frost's health insurance would have cost them $1,200 a month. Yet Bob Vineyard at InsureBlog does a quick internet search and finds:

"A check of a quote engine for zip code 21250 (Baltimore) finds a plan for $641 with a $0 deductible and $20 doc copays. Adding a deductible of $750 (does not apply to doc visits) drops the premium to $452. That's almost a third of the price quoted in the article. Doesn't anyone bother to check the facts?"

No matter how you cut it, this is not a good poster-child family for the necessity of government assistance. I do hear, however, that Bill Gates is having some trouble finding affordable insurance.

And I'm sure that plan covers the ongoing treatments from the daughter's brain injury. We know how insurance companies love to cover pre-existing conditions.

    Well, kiss my grits.

That train's never late, is it?

If I see one more mention of that imaginary and made up $80k figure I'm going to lock this mother fucking thread up. For the last mother fucking time, there is not one single mother fucking mention of families making $80k a year in that SCHIP bill which President Pharisee vetoed last week. For President Pharisee to go on TV and say that is one more mother fucking out and out lie that he's told us about something. FUCK!

So the family should be forced to sell their house to pay for their children's medical care?

I'm sure there's no consideration given to the fact that as the value of their property rises, so too does the property tax on that property.

So you lock threads based on your politics?

    Nice to know. :(

    So what?

Of course, they could elect a Republican county and city government and see their property taxes go down.

I may have exagerated, but the point is, deal with some facts if you're arguing.

So you don't care that they'd have to sell their house to meet rising costs? Typical conservative attitude-ah, fuck 'em.

And if the elected Republicans are anything like Dubya, they'd get irresponsible spending and huge deficits. Which would only lead to a lack of funds for necessary social services, which is just what they need when they can't afford health insurance.

And looking on the map where those people live, I'm pretty sure the'yre IN a Republican-dominated government. Baltimore County is decidedly different than Baltimore City. Hell, they put more people on death row than the rest of the state combined.

I guess no one told our resident comedian OT that in most of the civilized world, universal health care is not considered a "government handout".

Probably because it is considered a government handout.

Under what Constitutional basis does the government pay everyone's bills?

EDIT: Under what Constitutional basis does the government pay ANYone's bills?
