Inky reporter vs. Brett Myers

The reporter looks worse and worse as the moments go by.

"I have not yet heard from them." I wouldn't hold your breath, pal.

EDIT: forever_town beat me to it.

How about you apologize to Myers while you're at it?
Why is the Inky not putting the kibosh on this fool?

Too busy dealing with Screamin' Stephen.

Knowing what we do about the intelligence of the average MLB player, it's a legtimate question.

Sorry, but with Myers' reputation already out there, the reporter is a hero in my book. Screw Myers. We already know he's not likely to take a swing at another male.

At first, I was willing to cut Carchidi more slack. But the more I hear about this, the more this nameless hack over here is saying, "that sucks, dude."

Now that I've heard the tape, I realize I posted too soon. If the reporter had let things go after "how do you spell retarded" it would have been fine. But he decided to try and out low-class Myers, and that wasn't a good thing. He completely stooped to Myers level, if that was possible.

  8. Channel 29 in Philadelphia, the station that aired the story, had an online poll -- who is more to blame? It's interesting to me that Myers, as of a minute ago, was ahead of Carchidi, 54.29 percent to 45.71 percent. I would have thought the votes would be 2:1 for Carchidi, but maybe the vote is influenced by Myers' past.

I hate passing along judgment on an event at which I wasn't present -- it's hard to judge the context. But I'm with Hondo. The "spell retarded" comeback was clever, and Carchidi was OK to do that, considering that Myers had tried to belittle him. But that should have been the end of it. I wouldn't have done that, but this stuff happens. It was a tough question after a tough loss. Myers insinuated that the ballpark was to blame.

Myers replied with a profanity, and Carchidi should have probably closed his notebook and walked away, not stooping to his level. By the way, you whipper-snappers out there, these kind of shouting matches have happened to anyone who has been in a major-league locker room, dressing room or clubhouse. Sometimes, if you don't get barked at, you're not doing your job.

Carchidi allowed a big-league asshole to get to him, but I'd guess the editors will keep assigning him to cover games on Todd Zolecki's nights off. I do believe Carchidi has been filling this role since Jayson Stark was on the beat. He isn't some kid trying to make his mark.

He's got a sweet mustache on the Inky home page. Dude's been covering sports there for 30 years, I'm sure he thought, "Who's this wife beater think he is to call me names?" Esp. since he has nothing to lose in the situation, aside from the respect of random message board posters who love to debate ethics and such.

True, but see "Will McDonough, Patriots" for the flip side. Myers totally provoked the guy, verbally.

Ever heard the saying "two wrongs don't make a right"?
