Interesting plagiarism case

Discussion in 'Journalism topics only' started by statrat, May 3, 2007.

  1. OD, read my posts over again. No where did I attack you in any way. I gave you the benefit of the doubt each time.

After you posted his myspace page the cat was already out of the bag ... so I was speaking to the group.

And yes, you did out him in the first thread. It was easy for me to find out who he was from reading your posts.

Thanks for the benefit of the doubt.

Clearly since I was the one who deleted the thread, I felt badly that people thought I had outed him. I'm not debating that point anymore and wish others wouldn't, either. I posted my view, which I deleted from my post.

  3. No problem. I deleted mine, too.

This blog is set to private. This user must add you as a friend to see his/her blog.

Can I borrow someone's screenname to get in?

(sorry, but my sympathy for him is low and will remain there until further notice)

  5. Big difference between not having sympathy and trying to get on his page so you can harrass him, Meat.

It's set to private. Doesn't matter if you have an account or not.

It was a plagiarism joke. I'm taking someone else's name and passing it off as my own.

I don't give a hoot in hell about this guy, other than to point out the added layer of shame on the industry he's slathered on with his actions and hope he figures out how to fix it if he's going to stay in it.

  7. I don't think it's possible he can stay in the industry. All it would take is someone to challenge a quote or something and he'd have to go through this all again because of his past.

You'd be amazed. I've known people with rap sheets longer than a porn star's moneymaker stay in the business against all reasonable odds. It's a pretty big country, and while he's not going to get a job in Virginia any time soon (except Martinsville, but that's a fate worse than unemployment), he can probably find some 5-and-dime paper in the hinterlands that'll give him a job.

I understand the reasoning behind the "no outing" rule on this board, but should anyone really feel bad that Fuell's name was leaked onto this site with such overwhelming evidence? I think the more we can get the word out about guys/gals that do this, the better for all of us.

    Thoughts?

I have no problem with THAT.
I do have a problem with saying this or that poster is Fuell. Maybe it is. Maybe it isn't.
    So don't say it.

  11. I didn't have a problem with the stories or his name posted on here ... and to be honest I thought the comments on here were fair and relatively tame compared to what we see on other threads ... I just didn't want to see it go beyond that with a mob mentality ... not that it happened, it was just my concern.

Yeah, I don't mean to come after him with torches and pitchforks. And outing his handle is useless anyway because he could just make another. But I don't think a hall of shame or something similar is entirely out of the question.
