Irritating phrases we'll hear the rest of college football's regular season

    I won't call a home run a dinger or a tater, but I will use homer on second reference.

    Pick is a little different and I don't think it has appeared in my paper other than in a quote.

    However, I do believe AP is using QB for quarterback on second reference as well as TD, RB and DB. I believe I've seen interception shortened to INT on second reference in AP copy too.

    It's our company policy not to use QB/WR/TD/RB/INT, but I can see the reason some people would. Although it's not official yet, there are far worse phrases than pick.
