Is Kevin Smith serious about Clerks III?

You must have missed "Bat Out of Hell 3." I got it as a Christmas gift one year. It was mediocre.

Wait, someone in the movie business making sequels of their movies? God, I've never seen that before. Fucking Kevin Smith. Only guy in Hollywood revisiting the same material. How dare he do a trilogy!

And how dare he do it for a tremendously low budget?!

And make money for himself and the studios in non-traditional ways?!?! Damn him!

Kevin Smith has been treated vilely on this thread.

Because the guy is damn near 45 years old and still making dick jokes.
At some point a good artist has to evolve and break through barriers.

I would hope no one like me contributes to Justin Bieber making money. I mean, that's just wrong.

I find it ironic that a guy with the name "3_Octave_Fart" is criticizing a director for making dick jokes at 45.

99 percent of all people who make movies - directors, actors, writers, producers, costumers, cinematographers, etc. - are not arists.
They call themselves artists, and the public has bought into that.

I really like some Kevin Smith's work.
He is not an artist, and there's no insult in that.

For me it's simply a feeling that I'm being ripped off.
Walk out after one of his movies and ask yourself if he has worked particularly hard for your entertainment dollar - writing, directing, producing, managing actors, etc.
His movies are cheaply made in every sense of the word.

That's how I feel with most action movies, like it's lazy, dumb moviemaking.
'Transformers' or 'Battleship' or The Fast and The Furious'

Smith will be the first to say he's not an artist. He'll also be the first to say he's not a very good director.

I listened to him on Aisha Tyler's podcast and he basically said, "What I do is write scripts with a lot of dick jokes... That's what I bring to the table..."

When he sticks to that, he usually does pretty well. When he gets more away from that, he usually doesn't.
