"Gruden convinced owner Daniel Snyder and team President and General Manager Bruce Allen, Griffin’s biggest supporters at Redskins Park, that change was necessary."

He just hadn't been the same since he was stupidly allowed to play on the bad knee and got it hurt worse.

His confidence is shot plus he's suffering from the paralysis of analysis. He should plead to be traded, or failing that released outright. There are coaches in the NFL who can revive quarterbacks, and he should seek one out even if it means spending four years as a backup.

I don't know, maybe part of the benching is to protect his health so he can have another full offseason to work on improving his game.

He took a boatload of sacks the past two weeks.

The benching is 100 percent because he sucks.

Snyder probably looks at it as resting RG3 for next season and hopes that by showcasing the great Colt McCoy, they can trick some team into coughing up a sixth round pick for him during the off-season. :D

Everything about this suggests that not only is Gruden completely flabbergasted at how terrible he is at basic shit, players are too. They're watching just as much tape as Griffin. They're busting their asses to get open, create separation, hold their blocks and maintain a pocket that's set up for a QB to take a five step drop. And they can see, in meetings, every player and every position coach, that Griffin is screwing all of it up. And then this dude has the audacity to stand at the podium and say that everyone is part of the problem. The reason they have to bench him is to avoid a mutiny. If I were Gruden, I'd say "Come watch 10 minutes of film with me, Mr. Snyder."

Look at this eye-in-the-sky shot from the 49ers game that Greg Cosell highlighted:

Five guys are WIDE OPEN. Not even NFL open, but open to a degree where there is five yards between them (all of them!) and a defender. And there is good blocking. Know what he did on this play? Scrambled, and short-armed a ball to No. 5 on a check down.

He needs a total reboot. He needs to spend an entire summer working on nothing but footwork. And he probably needs to do it somewhere else, but even then, it's going to be tough. I think he'll be out of the league in three years.

I think one of the biggest worries about RG3 at this point is that he hasn't done well despite playing for coaches who have a history of doing well with quarterbacks.

This has the potential to be one of the biggest falls from grace in a long time. He's not your typical draft bust. We saw what he could do as a rookie, and he didn't come into the league with all of the worries about being a headcase like Vince Young did.

The best to come out of this is that the Redskins know about his shortcomings before they gave him a monster contract.

How does a guy completely fall apart on the building blocks like that? Did nobody teach him? Or does he just not want to do it that way?

If it's the latter, I wonder how much he even wants to be a good players. He has fuck-you money already.

That's what is so shocking about his fall. It's not that he was just great as a rookie. He said all the right things. He looked like he was going to be one of the faces of the league for the next decade.

Maybe he got too big too fast. He went from relative obscurity to winning a Heisman and taking the NFL by storm in a two-year span, and it's been a freefall ever since then.

First he dominated in college fundamentals or no. Then he did very well in the NFL, fundamentals or no. Then he got hurt, which is tough enough, but THAT's when people decided to try and teach him things. Not too surprisingly, being told what he was doing was wrong stuck in his head and how to do it the new way didn't take quite as well. So he's all screwed up technically and mentally.
