Is RG3 done?

No biggie, but that photo of five guys open was vs Tampa Bay. The SF game was on the road.

 

RG3's dropoff is considerably worse, but you can harken back to Randall Cunningham's career, when it basically took him five seasons and a brief retirement after his big injury before he turned into an All-Pro pocket quarterback.

Cunningham looked as lost in Ray Rhodes' West Coast offense as RG3 looks now.

 

It's interesting that both Cunningham and Vick needed some time away (for different reasons, LOL) before coming back and being more effective quarterbacks.

He needs to be humbled. Maybe this does that. Maybe it makes things worse.

At the rate he's going, he's going to be out the league in a few years.

 

The better comparison is Kordell Stewart.

Stewart's best year was after he had already been in the league for seven years, and been a mediocre-to-serviceable quarterback for four. His first season as a full-time QB was good, but he didn't fall off a cliff between then and 2001.

Even still, his best year wasn't even close to as good as RG3's rookie year.

 

Stewart threw 21 TDs and ran for 11 in 1997, his third season in the league. Aside from higher interception totals, it was an almost exactly the season Griffin had, in both production and "Holy Shit!" moments. Stewart was going to revolutionize the position when Griffin was a little kid.

 

Stewart is an interesting comparison, but he was kind of eased into the role as a rookie when he started doing the Slash stuff. As someone pointed out, he didn't make his first QB start until his third season.

 

Can I get a Doug Williams?

 

Yes, and in that season, he was RG3 long before anyone had heard of Robert Griffin. His first season as a starter was spectacular and it was going to change the way the position was played. Then it became clear he couldn't actually play the position and flamed out. "Slash" begat RG3.

Stewart's third season and RG3's rookie season are pretty similar.

RG3's is better because of the TD-Int ratio and more rushing yards, but Stewart had four more rushing TDs.
