Except, as pointed out previously, by the time Locker was drafted, he was seen as an enormous reach at No. 8.

So was giving up three first round picks and a second round pick to move up four spots.

Let's not call Manziel a bust at least until he makes his first start, OK...

Tebow is a dumb comparison as well. He was a first-round pick (shouldn't have been, but was) but there's a big difference between being a late first-round pick and having a team trade three No. 1s to get him. Obviously, Tebow's career was a colossal disappointment as well.

    Locker was a reach.

RG3 was seen as one of those can't miss guys, someone who was worth giving up all those picks to get.

The Chargers got an extra No. 1 and a No. 3 to swap Eli Manning for Philip Rivers.

The Chargers got basically the same deal when they traded the top pick (that wound up being Michael Vick) to move down four spots.

That's giving up a lot to get someone. Giving up what the Redskins gave up to get RG3 is far beyond that, and only done for a QB who is considered a special, special talent.

If Tebow is a dumb comparison because the Broncos didn't trade three #1s to get him, who are you going to compare him to? Did Kordell cost three #1s?

Is it too late to compare Griffin to Joe Gilliam? No reason, just wanted to keep things on the right track.

(Boy, I hope I brought something worth a shit to this thread. ::))

There is a huge list of quarterbacks who were first-round busts. Tebow is on that list.

The shorter list is the one of guys who were billed, fairly or unfairly, as the guy who is going to save the franchise so much that a team gives an unprecedented three first-rounders to get him.

The Broncos didn't give up that much to get Elway.
The Falcons didn't give up that much to get Vick.
The Giants didn't give up that much to get Eli Manning.

But, by all means, let's compare him to Tebow, Jake Locker, Blaine Gabbert, Akili Smith and every other first round bust.

The Redskins weren't the only team offering that trade.

Griffin was seen as the most talented player in that entire draft. It's actually kind of comical reading the scouting reports now, which praise his ability to excel at almost everything he now sucks at.

Considering the number of first round qbs this year who have started multiple games (Bortles, Bridgewater, Carr) and the number of qbs who have started immediately in this league the past few seasons, the fact that Manziel, hyped to the ESPN max, hasn't even started is a bust in itself. He isn't carrying a clipboard behind Aaron Rogers or Brady. Its Brandon Fucking Weedon.

Well, actually, it's Brian Fucking Hoyer. But anyway.

Did Rogers or Brady start immediately?

    Brian Hoyer. Close, though.

And, we're not debating who's as big a bust as RG3 is. We're debating if there's ever been anyone who went from that good to that terrible in that short a time.
