For the life of me, I never understood why Washington gave up as much as it did to move up a few draft spots for Griffin. I'm no scout, but I could tell he wasn't an elite, Andrew Luck-type quarterback at the pro level. Worth a pick, sort of like Kaepernick (second round) or Russell Wilson (third round), but not to give up that much to move to No. 2 in the first round over him. Now they are going to look really bad if they dump him for a fourth-round pick like Denver did with Tim Tebow a few years back.

Mark, that sounds good on Dec. 4, 2014. Had you said it at the end of his rookie season, most people would have said you were nuts.

Not all black quarterbacks are alike, you know.

It's almost the weekend, so you know there's bound to be BREAKING NEWS!!!! out of Redskins Park.

First, it was Jason Reid saying that Gruden has washed his hands of Griffin.
Then, it was Schefter saying that there's a good chance Griffin starts again this season.

Hoo boy, it's fun being a Redskins fan!

Oh how I hope the Redskins dump RG3 after this season and he winds up with the Rams.

I saw a graphic the other day showing the EIGHT players the Rams acquired with the picks they gained in the trade with the Redskins. Most are starters. All are still with the team in some capacity, IIRC.

If RG3 goes to the Rams and becomes a solid NFL starter, I think that deal becomes even more of a fleecing than the Herschel Walker trade.

The WP had a story yesterday about how Gruden wanted RG3 gone. Lots of anonymous sources.

It was also very little new information.

It's pretty obvious Gruden wants nothing to do with Griffin at this point, even though he has the highest ceiling of any QB on the roster.

But, if Griffin gets traded or released, Gruden's starting from scratch in the second year of a five-year contract, and that's not really the best situation to be in. Unless he gives it a go with McCoy and Cousins, which means he'll maintain mediocrity and not get any further.

Yes, but it would be starting from scratch without a colossal distraction. I'd laugh if they won 7-8 games with McCoy or Cousins as the starter. He might actually buy himself some time if they took a QB in the first or second round.

There are all kinds of stopgap measures to take, in addition to a top-five or top-10 pick. He wouldn't be starting from scratch.

Gruden's brother survived the first two years in Oakland with quarterbacks who never should have been in the NFL. I'm sure Jay could dig something up with an entire off-season to look at it.

I put the odds of the Skins taking a QB in the first round at about 5%.
