We refuse to talk to Iran.

We refuse to talk to Syria.

We refuse to talk to Hizbollah.

We refuse to talk to Hamas.

Any time anyone uses the term "diplomatic solution" the neocons brand that person "a Neville Chamberlain!!!!"

Given that . . . can anyone honestly say we have tried to find a peaceful solution?

"We" (We being the Rest of the World) have been trying to solve this for more than 50 years. "We" finally convinced Israel to give up land in exchange for peace becuase "We" were told that's what the other side wanted.

I'm actually with AQB here. No amount of diplomacy is going to get this one done.

Lebanon wants Israel gone. The very least they might accept is the Golan Heights back.
Israel is not giving back any more land in the north, and they've said so.

    It won't ever end pretty.

i hate to tell you this, bte, but there is no peaceful solution -- unless the us is willing to drop all support for israel.

no matter what anyone says, no matter what anyone claims, the hatred between the jews and the arabs will never end. there can never be peace. israel has existed for almost 60 years in a constant state of war. its existence is like the red cape in front of a bull for the arab community.

the arab world will never let israel exist in peace. and they will hate the americans as long as they support israels right to exist. (and, even then, the extremism in islam may prevent a strong relationship. and im not saying our religious extremists are any better. if we were completely secular, it would be a problem.) anyone who thinks there is room to negotiate with assad, or the lunatic who runs iran, or the hezbollah has no idea what they are talking about.

More to the point, Hizbollah and Hamas want Israel gone. Lebanon as a country could probably peacefully co-exist with Israel were it not for Syria and Iran propping up the terrorists on the southern border.

Well, that assumes that Lebanon as a country can exist with itself, something I'm not sure of either there or in Iraq.

    But I get your point.

It'd be nice to see if it could.

BTW, If any of you watch Anthony Bourdain's show on the Travel Channel you'll be interested to know he's stuck in Beirut right now. They were over there filming an episode for his show.

And, no, I'm not the TV critic from the J-S.

  8. They were not there in 2003 -- or, in bulk, any time since 1998, according to the best info we have. The notion that Saddam moved them while he was facing invasion -- or moved them while he controlled approximately 16 percent of his country, and none of it near the borders -- seems to me a last-ditch ploy to save the lies that brought on the war.

I've read Bourdain's books, though he can be grating for an hour on TV.

If he makes it out, I hope he writes another book. He's actually a very good writer.

The idea that weapons of mass destruction could be moved anywhere in Iraq without our knowledge is completely laughable. Does anyone have any idea about the technology the US military has? Seriously.

I can't even mention the stuff that is in development right now.

Google Earth has maps showing houses drawn from satellite photos. Where do you think these photos came from? Why do you think they are dated a little farther away? Do you think that Google sent up satellites?

It astonishes me to no end that people are so naive.
