It seems Deadspin is about to go guns blazing at ESPN re: sex rumors

Deadspin/Gawker may be one of the few places left where the writers aren't so in bed with the WWL that they will work to expose a story like this.

Talk about an oversized axe to grind.
I guess ESPN must have passed over Mizzou for a job somewhere along the line and he's still pissed off.

I really don't draw any line of distinction between online and print, whatsoever. I judge each publication -- print or online, magazine, newspaper, blog or Web site -- entirely on its own merits. And I certainly don't ascribe automatic credibility to a newspaper solely because it's a newspaper.

Is some anonymous marketing SVP screwing a non-subordinate co-worker really a story that needs to be exposed?

That's great that they're willing to bash ESPN without fear, but there's far more fertile and worthwhile ground for ESPN bashing than this.

No axe to grind at all. Freelanced for them (the website and the magazine) extensively for more than a decade. Had a radio show at a ESPN-owned radio station for five years. I was always treated very well.

Has nothing to do with what really goes on in Bristol.

There also are legitimate bloggers that don't work for newspapers. I know they are few and far between but some are good at what they do.

The Post calling her schlubby -- there are no women in that sports department to object to that kind of characterization.

This girl is getting ripped more for her appearance than the psycho family stalking. I find that pathetic.

Sexism is alive and well, and still tolerated.

Agreed. Rip her for terrorizing the family, but then this is the paper that can't mention Anna Kournikova without putting an adjective like, "leggy" or "bombshell" in front of her name.

People who expect either Deadspin or the New York Post to adhere to any kind of journalistic standards, or even moral standards, are kidding themselves.

I don't think any of us expects it. That doesn't mean we can't criticize it when they fail to do so.
