It seems Deadspin is about to go guns blazing at ESPN re: sex rumors

Wow, the Post writes about 2 execs in a relationship in Connecticut. Wait until they start checking out all the law firms, hospitals, high schools, acting troupes, etc. in New York City... this could take a while.

I half-wonder if Eric Kusilias was one of the Mikes on Mike and Mike this morning as a fuck-you to Deadspin.

This 'execs in relationship!' story is the biggest non-event since Ernie confessed to Bert that there was a banana in his ear.

    That wasn't a banana.

Yeah but just think how many ESPN folks were scared to boot up their computers this morning.

I feel I'm beating a dead horse here, but I'm genuinely curious -- it seems indisputable that ESPN has had a longstanding history of sexual harassment. Which means a smart lawyer could tear them apart for the equivalent of the NCAA's "institutional neglect," or whatever it is.

Does ESPN/Disney just settle a bunch of cases and accept it as a cost of doing business? Does somehow no one sue?

It's baffling to me. Deep pockets and defendants with bad case histories usually have plaintiffs' lawyers aggressively seeking clients.

It's not sexual harassment unless someone complains.

The former Illinois star is pretty teed off about this.

Or it's a blogger dude trying to get pub for his own stuff.

    Nah . . . . .

I could really give a crap about the "pub." The last time Deadspin linked my blog it was like 500 hits, less than a percent of that day's traffic. It could be that I'm actually pissed off about the huge ethical lapse here, maybe.

It's a combination of that and fear.

Having ESPN on your resume and the right reference from there can be extremely helpful if you're breaking into the business. I'm guessing in a lot of cases it's enough for someone to bite their tongue and forget about the harassment and abuse they had to take.
