It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Discussion in 'Anything goes' started by Cosmo, Jul 14, 2006.

1. All the product placement was really off-putting. I love this show, but if every episode involves multiple trips to Dave & Busters, I might be out.

No kidding. I hadn't ever noticed it before, but it was everywhere last night. The Coors Light stuff was so awkward and obvious that I thought maybe that was a part of the joke. And the Dave and Busters stuff seemed all the worse because RIGHT before the scene where they actually said they were at a D&B, they said D&B helped sponsor the show.

Weird all the way around.

Yeah, didn't like that aspect either. Last night was not the show at its best.

The first Coors reference that Dee made when Dennis and Mac asked her to make a drink was funny. All she mentioned was that "when the mountains turn cold, the beer is ready" or something along those lines. I don't even remember seeing a Coors label, nor her saying "Coors", though I have to check.

It was awkward when Charlie referenced a Coors sign that wasn't there. Those two scenes were back-to-back, something I hadn't seen before on the show. Strange.

If Dennis, Mac and Frank hadn't gone to Dave & Buster's, they might have gone to a strip club or something. I don't know.

Some shows do it better than others (Scrubs is one that comes to mind). If you're using products with logos, I don't have a problem with it, since that's real life. But Sunny was WAY over the top last night.

I like that their episodes are timely when they're about the gas crisis or housing crisis, but in term of last night's episode, I thought it was out of place. I almost felt like it should have been done at the end of last season when things were still tumbling, but now that the economy has started to stabilize, I felt like it was a few months too late and over the top.

I've been so busy with football that I haven't really missed it. And if there has been something I really want to watch, like during the U.S. Open, I just watched online.

Yeah, they were really beating people over the head with it last night. Apparently that's the way of the future for television, since nobody watches commercials anymore. A little of it is tolerable, but this episode was over the top.

That was a great episode. I've never been completely on board with DeVito's addition, but you can't say the guy doesn't commit to the role.

DeVito doesn't make the show for me, Charlie does that, but he certainly adds a lot to it. The Eagles tryout episode a few years ago being one of the better examples. Seeing little DeVito, who has to be about 60, say "I'm gonna trip balls," still makes me laugh every time.

I look forward to DeVito's character every week. And he nails it every single time, too. So good.

Gail the Snail: "I'm giving Uncle Frank a handi under the table."
Frank: "This is true. OK, stop. You're mashing it."

Classic!

12. Probably in the same category of product placement as the D&B stuff on Sunny, but I thought this was pretty funny when Arrested Development did it in Season 2.

Carl Weathers: [at Burger King] I'm going to go get a refill. You know you can get a refill on any drink you want?
Tobias Fünke: It's a great restaurant!
Narrator: It sure is!

Probably funnier in AD because in Season 1 Carl Weathers was established as someone always looking for a handout.

Tobias Fünke: You're right, Carl Weathers! I should just march into that restaurant where my wife works and...
Carl Weathers: Whoa, your wife works in a restaurant? Do they get free shift meals or a discount on select menu items?
Tobias Fünke: Uh, I don't know.
Carl Weathers: Well, let's find out, man!
