Someone with a clue wouldn't have insisted on a very questionable Turkish genocide resolution without considering the effects thereof.
    But that's just me.

Well, since we promised Turkey the moon and stars when we used their nation as a staging point without any intent of living up to our end of the bargain, we've got a lot more serious problems with Turkey than a proclamation, but I'll agree that it played like a bumbling fuck up.

  3. That's not much of a defining issue there.
What if she'd handled it deftly, or not handled it at all? How would things have been different? My question stands -- what would someone with a clue HAVE done in the face of the institutional restraints she faces?

    It's not institutional restraints.
She lacks the ability to even get her own party on board to her silly ideas.

It probably would have been a good idea for the Dems not to run on a platform of "We'll Fix Everything" when they knew there was no way they could deliver on any of their promises.

But if they hadn't done that they wouldn't have won. So I guess, from a DNC standpoint, it's better to lie and get elected than be honest and lose.

Had she advocated bombing Iran or anything that silly?

  7. Beyond the Turkey resolution, what "silly ideas"? They got lobbying reform passed. The fact that she's got Blue Dogs voting with the Republicans -- thanks, Heath Shuler -- is something she cannot do anything about. Her majority is not big enough. And, without a bigger majority, you can;t just wave the institutional restraints away. Since the congressional poll numbers sunk because they weren't tough enough on President 28 Percent, you can hammer her on that, but I'm still waiting for what she should have done.

F_B, you are asking for generalities I can't do.

The Armenian thing was an example of all politics is local mantra, as evidenced by all the Republicans who at least initially supported it. How come? Votes. Many of them were from California and districts with a lot of Armenian-Americans. Sure, lots of GOPers jumped ship quickly, but a lot of them signed on to the bill to get votes at home. Nationally it may have been a disaster, and it was, but it played well in some districts.

The only way that Yawn and markvid would be more distressed about the matter is if Pelosi "accomplished" something. Then they could wring their hands over increased taxes or welfare cheats or somesuch.

In other words, as long as it gets me votes I don't give a shit what the national or international fallout is.

And that's a not a slam solely on Pelosi, though she's certainly one of the most guilty in this situation.

Well, she is concerned about what happened in Turkey 95 years ago. So give her time; someday she'll get to the 21st century.
