Didn't the league do the same thing with the players last year?

And I suppose you assume that teachers only work 5 hours a day for 180 days, right?

NFL refs do considerably more than 16 days a year. It's not a full-time job, but their preparation is a fairly substancial part-time job. They have to undergo weekly reviews and take weekly tests. Then they have to do more rulebook studying during the week, and in the off-season. They fail too many tests, they get fired.

Not to mention, they have to put in the time to work out and stay in shape. You don't see too many Eric Greggs on NFL officiating crews.

The funny part is that if they had done what refs have been asking for years -- make them full-time -- they would have them over a barrel.

I still can't believe that Green Bay call caused all the uproar. There were far greater examples of incompetence out there -- this one didn't look much different than the real refs to me. In fact, I'm still not convinced they got the call wrong.

Actually, Rahm took it from the league's playbook from the year before, when the owners declared the lockout over before the players had a chance to fully look over the agreement.

Then the owners tried to use public pressure to say that there was an agreement, but the players were backing out. Then the players agreed to the terms, and didn't notice that the owners inserted the clause on not allowing lawsuits for any previous collusion. Then, once everything was signed, the owners freely admitted they colluded when they fined the Cowboys and Redskins for overspending during the "uncapped" year. Now the players are in court seeking damages.

It's still $150,000 for a second job. Nice work if you can get it.

Let's just say they're not struggling to pay the bills.

Well, there goes your teacher comparison.

    How are they like cars?

That made me laugh, although I completely disagree with you.

Judging by the quality of the refs who replaced them, they're worth every damn penny of that 8K per game, if not more.

I was referring to the amount of time they put in. They don't just fly in Sunday morning, work the game, and fly out Sunday night. But of course, there are some out there who have that stereotype.

And teachers, at least in my state, have to take more courses even when they are teachers to keep up their certification.

Oh, and they're the type of car where if you put good money into them, you'll get a good performance. Do it on the cheap, and you'll get the shitty results that you pay for.

NFL players only work four hours a week for 16 weeks, too.
