It's funny that these two schools have all kinds of money coming in from the Walmart fortune, nice new arenas, Arkansas has a really good basketball history, Mizzou is the only major school in a big state and they are trying to out bid each other for Mike Anderson ??? It's like two guys in the same neighborhood who both make $700,000 fighting each trying to get the last Taurus on the dealer's lot.

The history with Mike Anderson and Arkansas is obvious. Not sure I'd say he's a Taurus. Maybe you could compare it to two guys guys getting into a bidding war for a classic car, one that just doesn't want to be outbid, and the other that has a lot of sentimental value attached to a vehicle from his youth.

OK, maybe it's like a guy who overpays for his neighbor's Mustang. It's run alright for the neighbor and there are better cars out there, but you like this one because it reminds you of the Mustang you lost your virginity in.

So, does this make Mike Anderson the second highest paid coach to not have a final four on his record? ;D

I'm not sure... but if I'm following the metaphor correctly, I think Jake_Taylor just copped to losing his virginity in Mike Anderson.

Nah, but I think I made it clear I shouldn't try to compare coaching hires to car shopping.

I was there, too. As I recall, Walt Hazzard took offense to one of Moddy's questions in a press conference. (It was a good and reasonable question.)

Here's the problem with Alford at Indiana; It would be like John Elway being the Head Coach of the Broncos, or Frank White being the Manager of the Royals; The fanbase is so in love with him, they could accept sub par stuff for a while before it getting to be too much, then management has to get rid of him.
You're damned if you do; damned if you don't.

I could see Alford at UT. They need to go after a safe hire. They did it with Dooley....They could do it with Alford.

I don't see why anybody should be in love with Steve Alford as a coach. He has TWO NCAA tournament wins as a head coach. And his last two NCAA tourney appearances have ended in very embarrassing fashion - #3 Iowa losing to #14 Northwestern State in the first round, and #3 New Mexico barely getting past a #14 seed in the first round before getting smoked by #6 Washington.

Steve Alford was a very good college player. But he is at best a decent head coach. I'd take Butler's coach over him in a heartbeat.

I could definitely see Stevens going to IU. HoosierNation would fall in love with him. Curious to see who Ohlahoma gets......maybe Bobby Lutz if he wants to leave Ames.

Having covered all of those Alford years at Iowa, and seeing plenty of the in-game disasters, you are correct.

And they are having a "virtual press conference" to announce the hire. No folks, that isn't a joke.
