Rutgers with Eddie Jordan, Hollis Copeland and Phil Sellers beat VMI in the East Regional to get to Philadelphia undefeated in 1976. This was the last time two teams made the tournament undefeated.

It's as if Purdue couldn't be handling this situation any worse. Today, in a letter to athletic boosters, the athletics department essentially blamed Painters potential departure on the boosters for not donating enough.

Now I'm starting to see why Missouri might be the better gig, and that pains me to say as a lifelong Purdue fan and one-time student there.

Let's see, an AD can't raise money, let's the football program go flat and maybe loses the hoop coach.
One of them is bad, two is fireable and three makes me think the school president should be tossed as well.

First person to go should be the person who wrote the letter. Should be an instant firing right now. You don't call out the people who pay to be in the John Purdue Club. Joining that club is essentially donating to the school. You then call them out for not donating?

Full disclosure: I was born and raised in West Lafayette, am a massive fan and have friends and family that have worked at Purdue for a longtime including some in the athletic department.

As a Ball State student covering football when Brady Hoke was there this is actually reminding me a lot of his situation. Coach who played for the school, rebuilds the program and leaves over respect, money and morons in the administration. Hoke's main issue was the refusal to give his assistants a raise after going 12-2. A lot of Painter's stuff is that his assistants are being taken care of. Both schools have AD's who are horrible at PR and managing coaches, plus President's who don't care for sports much. Difference is Ball State's President is very hands on with athletics while Purdue's President seems to never get involved.

Cross Pastner off the list, then.

Looks like Shaka or bust for OU. And if I'm Shaka, I tread carefully. Capel came in as the guy to clean up Sampson's mess. Look what that got him.

I'm a little surprised that OU's going down the VCU well again. That's a job that requires a few years of hazmat treatment. He can do better, unless he doesn't think the Rams will be as good for the next few years, so get it while the getting's good.

Is OU really still facing sanctions? I know they got into trouble when Sampson was there, but has that still not been resolved? I thought Capel was there at least four or five years.

I know OU is in a rebuilding stage and everything I've read said that it's not realistic for the Sooners to be a tournament team within the next 2-3 years. If I'm Shaka, I make sure it's a long term contract.

Capel was at OU long enough for Sampson to go to IU, pull his shenanigans there, and get show-caused. Five seasons, for those who're counting.

The Tiny Gallon matter (which broke hours before the subregional in OKC a year ago) is still pending, and OU was still on probation at the time for Sampson's cell calls and Rhett Bomar's job-that-wasn't in football. Taliaferro took the bullet for Capel.

So yes, the NCAA hammer will drop, which is unfair to the new players and coaches that had nothing to do with the violations.

It'll never happen but, damn, the reaction would be fun to watch. That'd be like Auburn hiring Nick Saban.

The problem with hiring Knight is you'll get him for three years tops. But holy shit can that guy coach. The job he did that first year at Texas Tech had to be one of the best (and most overlooked) coaching jobs in recent memory. He took the job, got rid of several players, everybody on the planet picked them to finish last in the Big 12 and they made the tournament.

That's when you know a guy can flat out coach.
