If I was Mizzou, I'd put a tracking device on him the instant the ink was dry. Situation screams Cremins/Altman/Marshall/etc.

"It's not a done deal." is a lot different than "It's not happening."

I don't think I'd believe either response from a coach during a coaching search.

Probably, just because that and Purdue are the two best jobs still open.

It's been said on here before, but I don't see him going back to VCU after this run. He will never be as hot a commodity as he is right now.

And Purdue's pretty much gonna have to promote from within, right? Can you imagine the interview process if they take a run at anybody of note?

"So, why exactly did you just lose an alum that was three-time conference coach of the year?"

Aren't we pretty much down to just N.C. State, Oklahoma, Purdue and Utah as far as BCS Conference jobs go?

Smart would be insane to go back to VCU. He needs to cash in now.

NC State would make the most sense. Oklahoma needs a veteran.

I'm surprised Kruger stuck around this long at UNLV, although I know his kid was there for a while. The job he did taking a nondescript Florida team to the Final Four was damn good.

I don't think his kid was there long at all. Didn't he transfer after graduating (from Arizona, I think...) and was able to play on the Sweet 16 team back in 2007 without having to sit out? I seem to remember him lighting some team up in the second round, I think it was Wisconsin or Ohio State.

Possibly. I just remember him playing that year they went to the tourney.

This will probably rub some around here the wrong way but UNLV needs to hire another cheater and get back to being the Runnin Rebels. There was something special about having a big-time team in Las Vegas

That new HBO film on UNLV and Tarkanian is incredible. Very much along the lines of the 30 for 30 ESPN show on Miami football. Really takes you back to that time.

On the Painter story, the competition between the P-D and the Star to be the first to break this story is getting fun to watch. As linked earlier, the P-D reported this morning that Painter called the Missouri AD this morning and accepted the job. Nothing from the Star on their website except for "Travel arrangements could delay any announcement" that doesn't really say much. And now Mike DeArmond is Tweeting that a source at Missouri has gone on the record to say that reports Painter has taken the job are premature.
