Wasn't it already a Mizzou tradition by the time Steve Stipanovich shot himself? :)

Maybe. Stipo is a bit before my time.

Best part of the Stipo shooting himself story was that he concocted an absurd tale for the police about a masked madman in cowboy boots breaking into his apartment just to shoot him while screaming obscenities about basketball players. And then was forced to publically recant days later. Can't get much more humiliating than that.

Would Pat Knight get any consideration at N.C. State if Shaka turns 'em down?

Brings a name to a school that always could use one, not a great coach and probably would get his head handed to him in the ACC ...

I don't see where else they'd turn now.

I think this is going to end up being the correct answer.

To clarify, I don't think Alford is the correct answer for any school looking for a good basketball coach. But I think he will be hired at Missouri.

I think someone mentioned this earlier, but I could easily see Pat Knight at Missouri State. And Marshall has to be the hire at NC State, right?

At this pace, if they don't get Alford... Alden will have to call up, in this order:

    - Larry Brown
    - Rich Grawer
    - Norm Stewart

As for the Shaka Smart becoming Chris Lowery if he stays... Lowery is making $750,000 a year and winning FIVE games a year in the Valley conference. FIVE games. Good for Lowery for getting a 7-year deal in 2007 before the recession hit.

Can't imagine SIU will pay more than $300,000 a year for the next coach when it opens in 2014.

So where does UNLV wind up on the hierarchy (sp?) of coaching vacancies?

    1 and 2. Missouri/NC State
    3. UNLV
    4. Utah
    Everyplace else

Oh yeah, and it sounds like Paul Lusk to Missouri State is a done deal.

UNLV would be behind Utah, if only for the Pac-12 move.

Can't see it. Didn't get the job done at Lubbock. Fanbase in Raleigh is probably more of a lunatic bin than anything Pat Knight saw at Texas Tech. Could be both recruit and coach at a level necessary to succeed in the ACC, tolerate an impatient fanbase and worry about his place instead of the blue ones?

    No.

This happened with Mike Brey some years back when he left Durham to take over at South Bend.
