OK, that makes more sense then.

Doyel does have a long history with Yow from his days in Charlotte.

What's the story on Johnson leaving Princeton for Fairfield?

I just saw it on the wire. On the surface, I look at it thinking "Why would he leave Princeton for THAT job?"

Yow is a disaster. Total lack of class, unlike her late sister.

Get it right. "Basketball Class" was Jim Harrick Jr.. Harrick Sr. was entirely innocent. Just ask him!

I don't have a problem with the reporting by the Post. I also don't understand Doyel's criticism at all. If I'm looking for a job and know somebody who worked for my would-be boss for 16 years, I want his opinion on him/her. And if his opinion isn't flattering, I'll take that into consideration.

Is that sabotaging the search? Heck no. If so, then trust me, there have been a lot of people who have tried to "sabotage" searches for jobs I have taken.

I don't know if I buy Williams' statement that he never talked to any coach about this opening, but frankly, why should he tell if he did? Is he supposed to tell Gregg Doyel who he talked to in confidence? What, because this guy's Gregg Doyel and he's asking, he HAS to talk about it? How inflated is this guy's ego?

Now, if Williams did something more than just give his opinion on Yow to NC State candidates, then maybe there's a story. But as far as I can tell, nobody's accusing him of anything more than that.

I would not be surprised if Williams said something. I don't have a huge problem if he did.

If I'm Shaka Smart and I'm thinking about taking the NC State job, I absolutely would call Gary Williams.

If Williams sought him out and called Smart, it's a little more shady...

Kay was probably the only class along the Yow sisters, sad to say. Susan nearly destroyed Providence women's basketball - her three-year run ended with a 1-27 mess, but she keeps getting jobs (now Belmont Abbey).

Yow's anger with Williams might be justified, who knows? But that was not a smart way to handle the press conference. You are supposed to be introducing your new coach and somehow you make it all about you and Gary. Maybe that was the plan, maybe she wanted to distract from the actual hire.

And I like a lot of Doyel's columns, but the toughest guy in the press box routine is a joke.

Cooley left Fairfield in good shape for next year, by all accounts. It is amusing to see the way the Princeton gig has become a revolving door.

Depends on his relationship, if any, with Smart.

Of course, all it takes is giving said opinion to a couple of the right agents who represent numerous coaches and all of a sudden, word is out and you have "sabotaged" things. So if he ran into a couple of agents he knows in the Final Four and said "Tell your clients they don't want to work for Yow" to me, that's fair game too. I mean, is Williams' word gospel? Just because one coach doesn't like the boss that "sabotages" that job search?

    C'mon.

Belmont Abbey is where Al McGuire got his first head coaching gig.

The VCU AD is a former UNC associate AD. He may have badmouthed Yow or put Smart in touch with Williams.
