To me, that's fair game. I don't think Williams has the power or influence to "sabotage" their search anyway. Like I said, his opinion is something to take into consideration. But it should not be enough to sabotage a search, not even close. Unless he's being accused of doing something beyond give his opinion. So far, I see no evidence of that.

Speaking of cricking-chirping news, I mentioned much earlier in the thread that Southern would likely be looking for a new coach. They fired Spivery Friday (or at least they announced it Friday), just in time for the AD to go to the Final Four to look for a new coach.

Here's the twist: The AD goes to Houston and gets arrested for soliciting a prostitute Saturday. I would imagine he'll be canned today. Maybe the undercover cop only thought he was going to pay her for sex when he actually was going to pay her to coach SU's basketball team.

Exactly where I was going with this. He was run out of Tuscaloosa after a recruit or two went sour, and N.C. State isn't going to be any easier.

Hope I'm wrong, but unfortunately, no one was about Sidney Lowe (B_H, you're correct, as usual, but kudos to Lowe for going in and at least trying. In essence, he fell on the sword when none of the bigger targets on Lee Fowler's list wanted the job ... or had leveraged raises and contract extensions).

If Debbie Yow and Gary Williams want to start a pissing contest, keep the dirty laundry in the hamper. Don't air crap like that out during a presser to introduce a coach. Make the presser about Gottfried, being happy to have him and talk about the men's basketball program moving forward. And speaking of moving forward, Mark Gottfried, worry about standing up for N.C. State, not standing up to Duke and Chapel Hill. Yeah, yeah ... the fans like it and all that ... but seriously, if you don't get your house in order, what difference is worrying about someone else's?

Back to Yow ... just not the place to reignite an old grudge. And anyone who was cheering Yow for mentioning that during a presser was probably the same sorts who claimed they would rather lose with Sidney Lowe running a more conventional offense (though it was offensive to watch at times) than win with whatever offense Herb Sendek had.

At NCSU, changing the culture involves more than a mere basketball program.

Was Susan Yow classless, terrier? OK, she didn't have the success that Kay did as a coach - not too terribly many people can make that claim - but can you point to actual incidents exhibiting a lack of class?

Yow's feud with Williams just made it more obvious that Gottfried was her fourth or fifth (or worse) choice.

Well, there were guys like Adolph Rupp, Henry Iba, John Wooden and Jim Valvano ahead of Gottfried on the wish list ...

It seemed to me that Sam was being sarcastic about the absurd expectations of most NC State fans.

She took a poor hiring process and made it a disaster. To me, if I'm her boss, she took a step toward losing her job during the whole firing/hiring process then another two steps toward losing her job at the press conference.

My supposition is that there at least 100,000 annual reasons . . . and probably a bit more.
