    She alluded to a story that Doyel hasn't written yet. I hope it's coming soon. Nobody has written why Williams and Yow hate each other other than she wouldn't let two of his recruits into the bastion of education excellence that is Maryland. Maybe that's it. With some hoops coaches, that's all it would take.

    Susan Yow must have had pictures of Bob Driscoll. She went from 22-86 at NC-Wilmington to a Big East job. Keno was far from the worst hire Driscoll ever made.

    And didn't Debbie Yow try to stick her nose into the football hire at Maryland back when it looked like Mike Leach was getting the job?

    I was a little puzzled by that one, too, but didn't know if there were any other details or extinuating circumstances. I was in the area when Susan Yow was making a mess of things at UNC By The Sea. Then straight to Providence?

    Yow's behavior at the presser was bizarre. The question was posed to Gottfried and SHE answered it. What a bitch. And then she doth protestith too much. If State had any sense, she would be fired.

    If she would have 1.) let Gottfried answer the question first and 2.) then broke in and said something like "I don't think I have a reputation within college sports of being difficult to work with. There have been issues with one particular coach, but those aren't a reflection of my ability to work with people" she would have made her point and come off much better.

    Mizzou... Maryland's academic standards for athletes has really gone up over the last 10-20 years. In fact, athletes have a harder time getting into Maryland than they do Virginia and Va Tech.

    Yow and Williams have had friction between them for as long as I can remember. One rumor that's been around a while was that Maryland's first Final Four run in 2001 saved Gary's job. She later tried to force him out in 2009, after publicly embarrassing him about recruiting stuff and essentially creating a battle between the Athletics Dept. and the basketball program, but the boosters wouldn't pay up to buy out his deal. In effect, she lost the tug of war with him. She even staged a press conference where she tried to kiss and make up and pretend what a big Gary fan she was.

    Yow also tried to buy out Ralph Friedgen after the 2009 season, but the money wasn't there. The Terrapin Club wouldn't give her the money because they all liked Friedgen. A few months later she took the job at NC State. After taking the job, she still tried to lobby behind the scenes for Maryland to give Friedgen's offensive coordinator the head coaching job before any sort of announcement had been made about anything. James Franklin had been termed the "coach in waiting" but instead went on to take the Vanderbilt job after the current AD blew that shit up. But it wasn't without Yow trying her best to meddle there.

    Few people at the University of Maryland miss Debbie Yow. She became fairly toxic there, despite the good things she did do there. She just made sure they were overshadowed by becoming so difficult to work with among the revenue generating sports.
