It's that time of year: College coach carousel!

A longtime friend and former coach of his is a guy who drinks at my neighborhood bar. I'll just say it was recent. And not Mason.

But you said chances, right? Plural?

I'd love to know why Hobbs is getting turfed now, instead of after the season ended. I never liked these delayed firings to ensure that the fired coach doesn't get a job elsewhere the next season and come back to haunt the team that fired him.

  5. Hobbs' firing has everything to do with a new AD coming in last week. I don't think Jack Kvancz, the retiring AD, would have done that.

Not too long ago, GW had the best DC area program not in the ACC or Big East. The Colonials have slipped badly now, where they regularly lose to GM and AU.

The selection at this point wasn't stellar, but it's not an inspiring hire.

Hewitt's best year with that program will be next year.

Maybe not inspired, or incredibly outside the box, but a good hire. GW could have done much worse, and were fortunate to get someone this good considering that the carousel isn't in full spin right now.

Dredging this back up again for another bit of DC-area news. Seems like that's where all the action is. Anyway, per Jeff Goodman, Gary Williams is retiring.

Now that Turgeon is a Terrapin, who does A&M go after. Any quality candidates available? It's kind of late in the game to be hiring. (And I know there's a "Williams retiring" thread. But the carousel is moving again!)

If the Aggies want to go with somebody cut from much the same cloth as Turgeon they could call San Francisco's Rex Walters.

Semi-related: With the continued excellence of Gonzaga, reasonable expectations of a second bid most years and the arrival of BYU, will the rest of the WCC schools start pumping more money into their programs and get the conference up in A-10 territory? I pose this because San Francisco and Portland seem to be on the upswing, and I wonder if they'll fight harder to keep Walters in hopes of developing into a top 3 team in that conference more now than they would have a few years ago.
