So Vitale is bemoaning Turgeon jumping to Maryland and leaving the Aggies in the lurch.
“What about the kids that signed early, high school players that devote themselves to these coaches? I’m a little fed up with this, contracts are contracts, they don’t mean anything anymore. They’re coaching on the collegiate level, they are meaningless, they are so one-sided.
If I walked into my bosses - and I have a five-year commitment and they’re good enough to give me that - I’m not able to just leave when I want to leave.
If I sign you to a five-year deal and tell you how much I love you, and how much I want you and you want us, I’m going to look you in the eye and tell you, ‘my friend, don’t come to me after two years when you want out.’
I would simply say, if a guy signs a contract, why not honor it? That’s the purpose of a contract.”

REALLY? Is this the same Dick Vitale who said this a few days ago.

""My choice would be Tubby Smith. Instant credibility, he's a winner, he's a guy who's a class guy," Vitale said. "There's never any problems in terms of the NCAA. I think personally, and he might not say this, but he's available. I think he would leave Minnesota. He has family still living in the Baltimore area, and I think he would leave to come to Maryland."

Jerry Wainwright to Fresno. Because he was so stellar at DePaul.

Billy Kennedy to Texas A&M. Knows the territory, well-connected.

I thought, if there would be a year Jacobson would leave Northern Iowa, this would be it. He was a hot coach last year and, if his team doesn't make the NCAA tourney next year, his window would be closing.

Kennedy is a good get. I thought he'd get the Tulane job last year (or was it the year before that?), being a New Orleans guy and all. A&M is obviously a better job. He'll hurt LSU in Louisiana, where he has always recruited well.

I thought he might also be a candidate at LSU if Trent Johnson didn't make it past next year (pretty good chance of that, it would appear).

Did Vitale say Tubby was getting the job or just that he would be his choice for the job or both?

Jimmy O'Brien is back on the sidelines, at Division III Emerson.

In the least surprising move of all, Homer Drew has retired (again) at Valparaiso & turned things over to his son Bryce.

And that could be the case. O'Rear and Ahelegbe graduated this past weekend. Moran is back for his final year, Anthony James, Jake Koch, and Marc Sonnen are the only guys who have seen the floor last season. To add, assistant Kyle Green today has taken the UW-Eau Claire gig.

I can't blame Jacobson for not getting the A&M gig, but he was seriously considered along with Kennedy.

I heard something that might sound silly, but crazier things have happened. One of the local sports radio yokels here thinks that if Jacobson goes anywhere next year, it could be up I-35 to the Twin Cities. The yokel said that Tubby enjoys it in Minny, but his wife can't stand the weather, and Tubby could look to move.

For as much success Jacobson has in recruiting Twin Cities kids (especially from Tartan High), it could be natural move for him.

With that in mind, I'm not holding my breath. The yokel has been wrong many times.
