There's a right way to incite riot and wrong way to incite riot.

A riot is not a planned event, it is something that happens spontaneously. Newspapers and many Americans have been "planning for" riots since the 60's. At last check, they're still working on the plan.

Not to threadjack the discussion about bigotry into something about actual journalism: But the word "thug" struck me as odd when I was reading this article last night. For those who don't like reading, it is about the murder of former Buffalo Sabre, Brian Spencer.

    Thoughts?

So, is it your opinion that it is not racist to assume African-Americans engage in "group think" and are likely to riot in the event of an acquittal, or murder someone who ventures into an "urban" area who professes a different view than their about the guilt/innocence of Zimmerman?

Riots are extremely rare. That's what makes them newsworthy. It's been 20 years since he LA Riots. Again, we remember them because they stand out.

Yet, people predict riots all the time. Why? How often do they really happen?

So, are these predictions based on a predictable response to events, or something else?

Many have believed and some still do, there there will be a big race riot of some sort happening during the hot summer months. Some newspaper executives, having taken a cue from the past, have hired minority journalists for just this reason, so they can get the story during the riots.
